Midnight Rising Lara Adrian Dell, Mar 2008, $6.99 ISBN: 9780440244448 Dylan Alexander is in the Czech Republic when she sees the ghost of a young woman who begs her to save him. She finds a cave with a stone coffin inside and glyphs on the wall. In the cave is also Rio a Breed vampire whose face is scarred due to a fight he got into with Rogues in Boston (feral vampires who drink human blood). A straightforward mission was compromised by the traitorous actions of his now dead wife Eva. He senses Dylan in the cave but isn¿t worried because when she leaves he will scrub her memory. Rio destroys the cave, tracks her down and brings her to the Darkhaven in Germany where Breeds and Breedmates live. He learns that she sent pictures she took out to her boss, relatives and friends. She shows him her mark and he knows she is a rare female known as a Breedmate. Dylan is having a hard time believing Rio, but at his Boston Order residence he tells her she must choose between living in a Darkhaven with a mate and having her memory scrubbed so she can return to her life. When she sees Eva¿s picture, she realizes his late wife is the ghost she saw and tells Rio. He goes into a rage and turns into his vampire form forcing Dylan to believe. As they fall in love, they must find the Ancient vampire father held captive by a mad scientist experimenting on him and destroy them both. --- Vampires, ghosts and breedmates seem genuine although it helps especially at the beginning to have read previous Breedmate tales (see KISS OF MIDNIGHT, KISS OF CRIMSON, and MIDNIGHT AWAKENING) to fully savor the supernatural goings on. The changing relationship between Dylan and Rio is wonderfully developed so that the audience appreciates each one as an individual and as a romantic couple. Fans of the series will appreciate Lara Adrian¿s latest romantic fantasy although the confrontation between good and evil sets up future entries more than it does plot closure. --- Harriet KlausnerShow Less

It was good

This was my least favorite of the series so far. I felt there was too much of the "im not good enough for you" going on in Rio's head and the story line lacked and felt rushed at the end. It was still good, and of course if you read the series, you can't just skip one!

    Midnight Rising

This book was great. It was a little slow in the beginning, but the ending was wonderful solving the whole story involving Rio and answering questions about Eva. I loved the new Breedmate, she was great! I recommend this book and am starting the 5th book in the series! Great Reading!

    THIS IS A GREAT SERIES

This is one of my favorites series along the line of J R Ward and her black dagger brotherhood, the story line is action packed with just the right balance of romance to make it hard to put down. The guys in the series are sexy and a lot of fun to read about.

    Answered my question

I was skeptical when I first started this series because I'm a big fan of J R Wards vamp series and I didn't think that anyone could hold a candle to her flame. I was wrong and have loved this series from the start. When I was reading the last book when Rio had been hurt and I wondered to myself how she was going to be able to give him his own HEA after all that he has went through. I didn't know if she would be able to make him as appealing as the other bread males because of his scaring and wondered if that would turn some women off. It doesn't bother me but I'm not the whole population of readers. Well she answered that question with writing this amazing book that not only carried a great story line but the love between the two was spicy and sweet at the same time. She has earned her series at the top of my book shelve and I highly recommend her series.

    One of Her Best!!!

I thought this installment of Lara Adrian's Breed series was one of her best to date. Rio and Dylan's relationship is hot and sweet at the same time. I also like the new direction the storyline has taken now that the plot line from the previous books has been resloved(?).

    A reviewer

Lara Adrian¿s Book #4, MIDNIGHT RISING is yet another tour-de-force read in her Midnight Breed vampire series for Bantam Dell 'April 2008'. In the Czech Republic, tabloid journalist, Dylan Alexander is on vacation hiking in the mountains with her mother¿s friends when she sees a female ghost beckoning to her. At the cost of possibly losing her job, Dylan is on the trip in place of her mother, who requested she go because she has terminal cancer. Dylan hasn¿t seen a dead person since her childhood and this ethereal woman leads her directly to a dark cavern and pleads with her to ¿Save him¿. By flashlight, Dylan sees hieroglyphics, a skull and an empty crypt and senses a strange presence and flees. The next day pressured by her editor for a tabloid story, Dylan returns alone to further investigate her discovery and while taking pictures she stumbles on a mysterious man lying on the cave¿s floor. Little does she know, Rio is one of the Midnight Breed, an elite band of warrior vampires, who protect both immortals and humans from evil Rogues that want to control the world. Rio had been charged by the Breed to seal the cavern months ago that formerly housed unspeakable evil. In his scarred and emotionally damaged state from being badly betrayed by his former wife, Rio is ready to end his life and had planned to seal himself in the tomb as well. However, when Dylan escapes with her camera of photos, Rio knows he must follow her and prevent her from showing them to anyone. When Rio catches up to Dylan and discovers she¿s already uploaded the photos to her boss in the U.S., he kidnaps her and takes her back first to the Darkhaven compound in Germany and then the Midnight Breed headquarters in Boston. Unbeknownst to Rio, Dylan bears the crimson teardrop-shaped mark of a Breedmate, the only human women that can mate with his kind. Can Rio save Dylan from evil forces they know little about and can Dylan heal his broken heart? With finely penned larger than life alpha heroes, riveting unique plots and to-die-for passion, Ms. Adrian is an author, who understands what readers are truly looking for in a great romance. Lara Adrian is a force to be reckoned with in paranormal romance and her star continues to rise with MIDNIGHT RISING.

    Good story/download sux

The story itself is great, much like the other Breed books. The problem is that whole paragraphs have been lost during the nook-book conversion. This has happened on other books but this one was the worst. All in all, the story was still worth reading.

    This a great series

Love can heal the most damaged hearts.......Rio's story touches my heart. To be betrayed by his first wife hurt him to the core. His dead wife appears to Dylan and ask her to help him. This book follows the others in the series with the drama, action, and love. Thanks Lara for writing this series.

Never judge a book by it's cover...

This was another really good book in this series. Took me longer to read than I intended, had so much going on, (my point being) this was the type of book that when I wasn't reading it, I couldn't wait to get back to it to see what would happen next!

Beauty and the Beast, as Rio refers to himself, and this funny and cute woman, in the book... hmmph, more like Beauty and the Totally Hot Hunk!! Rio & Dylan are so sweet and so sexy, that you just wanted them to "be together", to make that final blood bond between Vampire & Breedmate, you were left breathless in anticipation along with the characters, wondering, waiting, hoping.... A lesson in never judge a book by it's cover! Rio's cover is just fine thank you! I really enjoyed Dylan's sense of humor sprinkled throughout this book.

I was rooting for this couple from the first words they spoke in the cave. You could just feel the connection!

This series just keeps getting better. I can't wait to read the next in this series, Veil of Midnight, to see what happens with Nikolai, another of these sexy Breed Warriors! Will he too find his Breedmate? I certainly hope so!!

    It was just okay...

It seems I'm in the minority here, but I thought this book was just okay. This is the first of the series that I actually bought because I like the previous book so much. To me, this book did not met the bar set by book three.

The story seemed to move slowly. There was a point when a lot of focus was on the character's inner turmoil when I thought they should be going out to fix the problem that they all seemed to think put the Breed in danger. The characters seemed to lack urgency and at times common sense.

This series reminds me of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, although not as dark. I personally think I prefer the BBD series, since the M:idnight Breed series has yet to produce a book I'm sure I'll want to read again. Ths series is enjoyable, but for now I think I'll stick to borrowing the books from the library.

    Midnight Breed series

So far I've read the first 3 books of the Midnight Breed series and absolutely "loved" them. I already bought the rest...:) I'm a big fan of romantic vampire books and never thought I would enjoy a series as much as I enjoyed Nora Robert's Circle Trilogy. Then I picked up Lara Adrian's books and the rest is history....

    AN ABSOLUTE & COMPLETE SURPRISE

At first, I was only going to give this book 3 stars, because I was having difficulty reading it. I started to get bored, and actually case it aside to read Mine Until Midnight by Lisa Kleypas. Once I was about completed with the Hathaway Series by Mrs. Kleypas, I decided to give Midnight Rising one more chance. Especially since I absolutely adored the previous books within the Breed Series.

Well I was side-swiped by this one, I was incapable of putting it down, staying up as late as 2 am to finish reading one of the chapters. What a riveting, captivating, amazing action-packed, passionate love story. Rio & Dylan's story is an intriguing, gripping, emotional ride that will leave you craving for more. DESERVES WELL BEYOND THE 5 STAR RATING!
