    EPIC STORYTELLING AT IT'S BEST

This is one of the best fantasy fiction series I've read in a long time. The story spans time and distance and is interwoven with precision. The characters have a real feel and interact with each other just as you and I would. There are plots within plots that make the book difficult to put down. Granted, at times the story drags a little, but sometimes that's a necessary evil when laying the foundation for a character or plot. Altogether I have greatly enjoyed this series. I'm currently reading "REAPER'S GALE" and it is just as good as the others. I'd strongly recommend this series and look forward to more from this author.

    Excellent fantasy

The Warlock King of Hiroth has done the unimaginable by uniting the tribes of Tiste Edur under his rule. He continues to expand beyond the historical borders though he worries about his legacy as he fears his offspring will either divide the kingdom in fourths or plunge into a war of succession. Thus he feels strongly about further expansion.--------------- To the south, though not quite what it was in its glorious past, the still powerful kingdom of Lether continues it quest to reconstruct the ancient empire that once ruled the continent. All are falling to the might of the Lether except for the Tiste Edur. These two kingdoms have a bellicose history that goes back through the centuries. Both are expanding towards one another with the smaller neighbors squeezed into submission to one or both. War seems inevitable as only one giant bully can rule the world, but a meeting to forge a peace that neither wants but both fears the outcome of open hostility has begun.----------------- The fifth tale in the Malazan Book of the Fallen (see MEMORIES OF ICE and HOUSE OF CHAINS) radically changes the direction of the saga even compared with the prologue, giving MIDNIGHT TIDES an opening feel to its powerful plot. Only an epic author of Steven Erikson caliber could pull off a coup like this and yet provide the audience with an action-packed thriller in which the two superpowers step ever closer to a world war. This is a great series and its latest entry continues the incredible deep story line with an unexpected but refreshingly delightful right turn that will have fans enthralled again and newcomers seeking the ¿history¿ books.-------------------- Harriet Klausner
