A Book Not To Be Missed
This play is a wonderful adaptation of the book, good for High School readers. It captures the drama and poignancy of the autiobography, and allows the reader to see him/herself as part of the story. Every character in this play deals with a struggle and helps the reader personify struggle and hope. The two main characters, teacher and student, exemplify determination. Each woman is a role model for teenagers in overcoming extreme challenges. The style is easy reading and the dialogue keeps the reader engaged throughout; one can picture the characters and action while relating to the anguish throughout the story. The reader can only rejoice as the characters persevere and change destiny.

It is a very touching book, which all ages can enjoy and be part of this incredible story.
I think this is an incredible story, i enjoyed a lot reading this book. While you read this, you are willing to find out what is going to happen to Helen Keller, if it is possible to teach her and make her a new person, and what new problems will appear in her way. I like to read books, in which you can learn something important for your life, when i read The Miracle worker i thought was incredible. The way Anne Sullivan taught Helen how to communicate and feel better about herself. Helen acted as an animal, nobody could stand her, till Anne changed her way of living and gave her a dream, a goal to achieve, to talk and express herself. Life is difficult, but anyone can overcome it. Helen is deaf, blind and mute, but with Anne's help she overcame this frustration, and found a place in this world.

A Masterpiece!
The book was amazing. The characters have this connection between them even though they were fighting. It's a story about a girl named Helen Keller, she was born deaf, blind and mute. Helen couldn't express herself because of her disabilities, everyone that wanted to help her was hurt by her furious rage. Then Annie Sullivan came to Helen's Life, Annie is also half-blind.

Annie was hired to teach Helen the things that a normal child would, like the alphabet and numbers. When Annie was little she used to live in an asylum with her brother. Annie used her experience to teach Helen. She tried to be friends with Helen and taught her words and letters. She asked Helen's mom to stay in a lodge where they would be alone so she could connect with Helen more. When they came back Helen forgot her manners at the dining but Helen was just testing Annie and after that Helen showed Annie that she remembers everything she taught her. It's just amazing that this story is true and someone did all the stuff i read. I would recommend this book to anyone that can read because this book shows the great courage, patience and kindness. -

Great Love Story of Friendship, and Family
This story of Helen Keller's Life is an amazing out look of the struggles and triumphs that she came through to get to what she wanted. the raw emotion of love that ms. sullivan shows helen, to let her know she won't give up on her, is just wonderful and very beautiful. ms. sullivan, saw helen for the remarkable person she was, and not view her as different like her family did. because her family through ms. sullivan came to understand helen, and finally saw that she was succedding in life. this is a beautiful, loving, inspirational story, of a girl who became a strong willed woman and a scholar. this story, has something in it, for everyone, because ms. keller really teaches everyone, that no matter how hard it can be, you can do it, and that's what ms. sullivan shows helen. that's why they become best friends for the rest of their lives. i recommend anyone to read the book and watch the movie, you will see what true love is about in this story.

beautiful story
In the touching story 'The Miracle Worker', written by William Gibson, is a dramatic play that takes place in Alabama in the late 1800s about Helen Keller¿s struggle to overcome her disability with her teacher Annie Sullivan. Helen became blind and deaf and mute from when she was sick when she was younger from a severe case of scarlet fever, and is now so sick and in serious danger of being sent to a mental institution. Her parents have gone to many doctors to try to solve the problem, but so far, nothing had worked. They were ready to give up when Aunt Ev brings up at dinner that there were doctors who help many children who have problems like Helen¿s. After a heated argument, they decided to go along with the idea, her parents resort to help from the Perkins Institute, which sends them a 'Half-blind Yankee schoolgirl' named Annie Sullivan, to tutor their daughter, and soon after Annie comes into their lives. Annie was a patient of Anagnos, and also a student. Now Annie Sullivan is in Helen¿s life, as her teacher, she¿s there to help Helen learn sign language and try to discipline her. Annie is from the school for the blind, since Helen¿s eye sight was so poor, even after 9 operations, Helen needed to learn how to understand language. Even though Helen was disabled, she was treated like a princess. Whenever she¿d be bad, her parents would give her hugs and treats for her to calm down, and they¿d spoil her whenever they¿d get the chance, especially around dinner time, where Helen would go around eating off others plates and eat off them, but not for long. Annie disagreed with the fact that her family lets her get away with that behavior, though they don¿t really know how to handle Helen¿s situation, they are rather helpless and try to make it as simple for Helen as they can. When Annie comes to dinner with the Keller¿s, she notices right away that Helen has no manners and is an obnoxious little brat, though it was not her fault, her inability to communicate has left her frustrated and violent. Despite the fact that there was a battle scene between Helen and Annie in the dining room about the way that Helen acts towards her parents and guests and to herself most importantly, Helen¿s father agrees to let them both live in a small house that they only used in the hunting season for 2 weeks at a time. Having being able to have this opportunity from her worried father, this is when Annie takes full advantage into helping Helen mostly understand words and behave properly. After the two weeks, Helen still doesn¿t fully understand the meaning of words but manages to carry on a communication by using her palms and forming letters with her fingers, and also she teaches Helen manners, and one of the ways she does this is by forcing and struggling with Helen to sit and fold her napkin and wait for dinner. It wasn¿t until Helen came back to a welcome home dinner that she realizes, through all the persistence and love, and sheer stubbornness from Annie, Annie breaks through Helen's walls of silence and darkness , she teaches her to communicate and to be a better person. So, in conclusion, although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the over coming of it, this story of Helen Keller proves that. She suffered terribly when she was little, but with the help from Annie and her courage, she went on to get a university degree, write her autobiography and a lot more.

A sweet, poignant, and beautiful story
The Miracle Worker is one of the best plays I've ever read--what makes it better is that it actually happened. It's short but amazingly sweet and has a wonderful message at the end. I know a lot of people say this, but this is really an unforgettable book, and I highly recommend that you read it.

'The Teacher Who Never Gave Up'
The Miracle Worker, by William Gibson, is a dramatic play retelling the once lived lives of the exceptional Annie Sullivan and her young pupil, Helen Keller. The story revolves around Helen, a young 12 yr old deaf/blind mute who has been forced to grow up in a world which has denied her language and understanding. Her family includes her father- Arthur Keller, known as ¿Captain,¿ a retired army officer, who has a need to be in control of situations, her mother- Kate Keller, who displays the most affection to the girl, 'her Helen' whom she can deny nothing from, and finally, her half brother- James Keller, whose sarcastic remarks and slight jealousy toward Helen are made apparent throughout the story. All are dumbfounded by her condition, and continue to spoil her with their pity and attempt to control her actions with ¿treats,¿ such as candy or cake. The end-result, leaving Helen to resemble that of a ¿wild creature,¿ doing as she pleases and relying on all of her instincts- including anger and rage when not getting her way. This is where Annie Sullivan comes in. Partially blind herself, Annie, a young woman in her twenties, is hired by the Kellers in attempts to help control Helen and to ¿tame¿ her uncivilized behavior. Haunted by her dark past, but strong-willed nonetheless, Annie takes this mission full on-and a difficult one it turns out to be. These two girls go head to head, testing each other¿s wits and pushing each other to their limit. In the end, though, they learn from one another and obtain a newly-found respect for each other. This inspirational story touches the heart and awakens the senses within the readers-just as Helen learns to do. It takes you into an unimaginable journey, through which a child, who knows no sight, nor sound, not even a language, learns how to find her voice, with the help of a teacher who never gave up. It was a very compelling story, impossible for me to put down. I would definitely recommend this book for everyone. It puts things into perspective, and reminds you of the many things in your life, which are constantly taken for granted. This story also proves, that once again, determination and persistence can pay off. Everyone should be so lucky, as to have someone like Annie there to help you find your own voice.
