Awesome book!

I am a 5th grade teacher and this book was recommended to me by our librarian. I have two classes and this is my second year reading this book. (which means I have read it a total of 4 times). Each time I read it, I get more attached to the characters. The best part...

Each time I read it, I get more attached to the characters. The best part about this book, my students both boys and girls LOVE it. I am already looking forward to being able to share this book with my son. It's such a great book!

    A Bittersweet, yet adorable story

This story is about an incredibly vain china rabbit, Edward Tulane, who is very pleased with himself until one day he is thrown overboard a ship and is lost. Edward is taken on a miraculous journey and learns what it really feels like to love, especially to feel emotion for someone besides himself. Edward's story teaches a valuable lesson, after what seems like a loss equivalent to 'the end of the world', it is still possible to love again.

In my opinion not for young children

I suffered watching a, previously avid, young 8 yr old girl read this book. She could read it and understood but the troubling journey of Edward was disturbing to her as bunnies are her very favorite animal in the whole world. Be careful when ordering children's books. We told her she need not finish it but now she doesn't even want to go to the library. It's sad what this has done, hopefully temporarily, to this girl. She hasn't even picked up Harry Potter yet and that's an all time favorite.

A Children's Book Adults Can Appreciate

If you've ever read the story of The Velveteen Rabbit and wished the story were longer, then this the book for you! While Edward doesn't ever become real in the sense of turning into a wild rabbit, he does become emotionally real when he learns how to love. There are significant things that happen to Edward (the rabbit toy) that are similar to the spiritual and emotional processes adults go through in real life. While my four-year-old didn't pick up on serious symbolisms, she enjoyed seeing pictures every few pages and was able to pay attention, for the most part, because the chapters are short. If you read this book, you will definitely take some beautiful lessons and imagery away from it!
