Down to earth advice in a switched on world
Jeffrey Hayzlett tells it like it is and also has been there, done it and bought the t-shirt. What I really enjoyed about this book was that anything he recommends can be applied to your small business or as a leader in a large corporation.
Originally from American cowboy country and successful entrepreneur with his own businesses, Jeffrey applies those lessons of hard work and street smarts to the rapidly changing face of marketing, advertising and branding today. He has not been caught up in the 'social media' is the answer to everything in terms of engaging and selling to customers - yes it is a very useful and exciting tool, but it's just another option - he is still a huge advocate of the benefits of targetted direct mail and print.
In fact while many people might know him from the Celebrity Apprentice or a red carpet appearance or two, my interactions with him have been via social media, where is is reputed to be one of the top 10 C-level tweeters. He was responsive, engaging and enetertaining and he walked the talk, resulting in my decision to make a purchase from his company. An almost larger than life character, but authentic and honest, he is the real deal and a stronger personal brand for it.
A good read, some great enetertaining stories and quotes, with real life examples and solutions, this book should certainly be on the shelf of any good marketing person and certainly one for the small business owner to heed.

The Mirror Test by Jeffrey Hayzlett: A Realistic Guide to Marketing
Wow! Great marketing insights from the World's Top Marketing Guru, Kodak's CMO Jeffrey Hayzlett. He is truly a "dream team" marketing leader. Jeff combines good basic marketing insights from his own personal business experiences, plus awesome advice on how to use today's new Social Media platforms like Facebook, Twitter & Linkedin to launch or expand a business.
His real life experiences cover small companies to huge corporations, local & global. The author explains how common sense, understanding customers, and integrated marketing efforts have helped him to be successful in his business endeavors. "The Mirror Test" should be a MUST READ for entrepreneurs, marketers & business students. The book is well organized & very easy to read.1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

Finally a book that all entrepreneurs can use
I read the book on my flight to Miami earlier this week, then yesterday on a flight I re-read the sections I highlighted. Congratulations, you wrote a business book that is fun to read, provides scalable real-world advice for any size entrepreneur and struck the perfect balance between layman and businessman voice. I literally wrote notes on pages that correspond to my start-up projects and will be putting the businesses and my co-founders through those tests and metrics.
I read a ton of books on the road and most business books are the opposite, they either have very little advice that is scalable, state the obvious but take 200 pages to do it, are filled with MBA vocabulary or are just plain boring.
I'll be buying lots of copies for birthday and holiday gifts in the future, and I'm going to give it to my Little Brother for his high school graduation gift. He's gone from a 1.8 GPA to a 3.65 and headed for college in the fall - a complete turnaround in the 4 years we've been matched in the program. He's got a craving to start a business and I know he'll love the book.1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
