Well, it's happened. I have found a new favorite chick lit author. This is one of the best chick lit books I have ever read. And what makes this book even more amazing is that the author is the same age as me! It's really awesome to read a book from someone who shares the same views and perspectives because we come from the same generation. Since the author is the same age as the main character, Lauren comes across as extremely realistic acting exactly as I would in certain situations. I find this very refreshing as compared to a 40 year old author trying to write as a 25 year old. Lauren is an excellent character. She dresses in old clothes, hangs out with guys as friends, and bonds with her dad. I love how Lauren really eats food, and doesn't worry about her diet. From greasy cheeseburgers to turtle pie cheesecake, this girl would rather feel full than try to be skinny. She also has one of the most random thinking patterns I have ever read about. I cracked up when reading the quote about Maid Marian's flower ring, I've always wondered about that too!! Loved all the Pride and Prejudice talk as well, especially with the mock English accents. All the characters in the story are really fleshed out. I liked how Hannah and Lauren's friendship grew in spite of Lauren's original thoughts. Brandon seems like a really good guy friend to have, albeit he can be very clueless. Lauren's relationship with her family is very touching, she obviously cares very much about her dad even though he drives her nuts. When I first started reading the book, I kept thinking I would know what happened at the end, who would end with who, believing it would follow the chick lit stereotype. I was happily proven wrong. This is a fun and hilarious book that will make you say 'This has happen to me before!' I cannot wait until the sequel comes out. Erynn Mangum has made a fantastic debut and other chick lit authors better be on the lookout!

Meaningless Fluff!

I enjoy light reading because my work is so mentally draining, and I really tried to like this book. I stuck with it, but the writing only got worse and I finally gave up with about 30 pages to go (something I've never done before); I decided I really didn't care how it ended, it was that meaningless and disjointed. How a main character who could faithfully read her Bible every day could be so frivolously shallow is beyond me!

I had read Cool Beans previously and it was marginal, but thought since this was free I'd give it a try. Just glad I didn't pay for it. It seems that the author tried too hard to be funny, really overdid the lame similes (sometimes I wondered what planet some of them came from), and the plot kept getting weaker and weaker as it went on, to the point that it was almost painful to read.

In all fairness to the author, I think this is one of her earlier works, so maybe her more recent books are better. I give her a lot of credit for her effort, and I feel with the proper guidance this book could have been so much better. I lay all the blame on the publisher. They should have known better! (Reminds me of all the poorly written stuff that was published when Christian fiction was a new genre a few decades ago.)

    Practice should help

With all jobs practice makes perfect. This is not a great book but with improvements it could be really good. I think the characters could have been developed better. This would have helped the story line.

    Wasn't too impressed

The story is pretty much a modern christian version of Jane Austen's Emma. I love the story line my only point of contention was the poor writing. I don't need to know evey little move every character makes. It's annoying and leaves no room for imagining the scene being played out. Wish the authur spent more time on character development. Maybe I would've connected more with Laurie. All in all a descent read and good story just needed more character depth and an authur who can write.

    Cute and sweet

Cute and sweet. Fairly simple story that most teens and early 20-somethings can relate to.

    Only for girls

It was very easy to read this book.Whole book is about this girl Laurie who likes to play Cupid. She is funny anf very free spirited, she lives with her dad and never wants to get married. Laurie does not have love life, but she is very determined to make sure that other people has one.Laurie is almost obsessesed with mach making, coffee and chocolate(this book made me crave for coffee and chocolate so much).Although she means well, sometimes i think she was playing God.I did not like that. She was like God's helper in finding love.I liked that the book was christian and had some bible verses.
