Why in the world isn't this series more popular? McCammon is an absolutely terrific writer who was crapped on by his publisher after he decided to stray from the strict "horror novelist" label they tried to pin on him. It's their loss. The Matthew Corbett series, which is set in the early 18th century and starts with Speaks the Nightbird, is perhaps the most exciting, best written, most immersive example of contemporary fiction this bookworm has come across in a over a decade. Do yourself a favor, reader. Pick up this series and enjoy.

I have purchased several nook books and this is the only one I have had a problem with. This Book is a little over 900 pages. It stops at page 867 then skips to the last page. I took it to the instore help. The clerk said to archive it for 2 months and it should be updated. Two months later and they said 6 mo to a year. I have had this book over a year and nothing has happened. I am unable to get a refund. I would really like to know the end before I move on to the next in the series. It is a very good story. (Not as good as the 1st)
