MOONWALK, IS AN INSPIRATIONAL OUTLOOK OF AN ARTIST STRUGGLING TO BREAK OUT OF THE TABOOS AND UNFAIR JUDGEMENTS OF THE PAPARRAZI.
I HAVE READ THIS BOOK BACK IN 1994 BEFORE ALL THE SCANDELS. THSI BOOK IS A BLESSING OF FRESH AIR IN UNDERTANDING THE MIND HEART AND SOUL OF MICHAEL JACKSON.
MICHAEL STRUGGLES AS A CHILD AND YOUNG ADULT RECEIVES SURPASSING FAME, BUT THIS DOES NOT NEGATE HIS FEELINGS OF LONLINESS AND EMPTYNESS.
TO FILL IN THAT VOID HE REGRESSES INTO A CHILDLIKE PERSONALITY AND SURROUNDS HIMSELF WITH NEEDY CHILDREN AND AN ATMOSPHERE OF WONDERLAND
THIS BOOK MAKES AN ACCOUNT OF HIS REACTION TO LIFE IN GENERAL, TO THE PUBLIC, THE PRESS AND HIS FANS.
FAN OR NOT THIS BOOK IS TRULLY WORTH READING.5 out of 5 people found this review helpful.

Lovely, Inspiring, Tear-Jerking -- A TREASURE
For me, being a huge fan of Michael for such a long time, reading this was somewhat emotional. I did cry a few times during my reading. I first read the book a long time ago, and I got the 2009 edition and read it again. I was so absorbed by Michael's genius, I would read 100 pages in less than 20 minutes! The images inside are BEAUTIFUL, so capturing and delightful to look at. The book itself, when you take off the cover, is just gorgeous.
When I read this, it feels as though Michael is speaking. It feels like he's talking to you. It gives you this wonderful feeling just like, "Wow."
That's how Michael makes you feel. Just astonished by his so obvious intelligence which is even more evident in this book. He tells it like it is, but the way he wrote it was like the words of a genius. Michael was a genius. The book he wrote was purely him and his beautiful soul. He told about his life, his feelings, the way he looked at things. His perspective. It really is astonishing and fantastic!!!!!!!! Highly recommended!2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

A WORK OF A GENIUS
Michael Jackson is a genius, he wrote his biography in such a way that the reader could almost hear him tell the story, in words that are so concise and in a manner that captures the reader's imagination and attention. The reader finds it difficult to put down the book and becomes absorbed by the awesome way Michael Jackson told the story of his life. This book is a must read, as it explains why Michael Jackson is such a great artist and what motivated him to be as he was. Michael is a very lovable, gentle, kind, loving, compassionate person, and the greatest artist ever. Through this book, Michael Jckson lives forever.

A book to treasure forever.
This is only one of the three books that Michael Jackson has authored. It is a treasure and must-have for all fans. Being a die-hard fan myself, I had the chance to have the older version. Now I have this version which has a new foreward by Berry Gordy. The pictures are beautiful. I look to this book time and again for inspiration. Michael has written this so genuinely and flawlessly, detailing his early years, his friendship with Diana Ross, filming of the Wiz and the making of Thriller. I love it.

In His Own Words
If you are a fan of Michael Jackson and do not have this book - get it. He shared some of his the most intimate thoughts and feelings with the world in this book and he knew that people where very interested in wanting to know more about what he was really like.
This book started sometime during filming of the Thriller video and was finally completed and published first in 1988. Now that Jackson has passed away and we know a little more about what was going on in his life since 1988, it is interesting to read about his past throughts and views on things and compare them to the more recent events leading up to his sudden death.
In this book, he mentioned that he couldn't understand why people in the business get caught up in drugs and alcohol and die as a result of it. He also mentioned that it is a shame that many celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Jimmy Hendrix died the way they did and we now will never know what more they could have accomplished if they where still alive. (We will now never know how things would have been if Jackson himself lived on to perform the London concerts, see his kids grow up and so on).
At another point in the book, he said that people told him that if he didn't stop living a in seclusion that he would end up like Elvis. He said he did not think that he would end up like Elvis because he was not like him. (We now can read from Lisa Marie Presley's blog about Jackson that he once confided in her that he believed that he could share the same fate as her father Elvis.)
In reading his one and only autobiograpy you can see how throughout the years there have been significant changes in his life. The way his life was then(as he interpreted it to be) and the way his final years panned out is really heartbreaking and sad.
One of many great thing I took away from this book was on his insight into his craft as he generously shared some events and reasonings behind some of the songs he did for albums like "Off The Wall" and "Thriller". After reading about what he had to say about some songs I now listen to the songs with a different ear, and enjoy them with a fresh take which makes them more valuable. He was a genius in many ways and his legacy lives on through his work. Can't wait to see the "This Is It" documentary. Thank you for sharing a little bit of yourself with the world Michael!2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

Great Insight into this incredibly and amazingly talented man!
I'm only about 1/2 way through the book but it is very insightful and I'm really enjoying learning more about MJ and J5 as they developed into the entertainers they are (were). The book somewhat dispells the impression that Michael's childhood was all bad and totally lost. True it wasn't typical by any means but MJ was not typical. He shares many stories of happiness and fun and childhood joy but also the terror of the fans as they mobbed and physically hurt him in their show of enthusiasm and love. It is easy to see and understand why he became who he was, especially experiencing these things at such a young age. He also shares why he had such an issue with his appearance during the already difficult adolescent years and how it impacted his personality and attitude in public. The book brings understanding and empathy for Michael - and sadness that he sacrificed and suffered so much, to bring so much joy to so many people. But in his own words, music and entertainment was to Michael as breathing in and exhaling out is to the rest of us - so it's good to know that he really loved what he did. It is just so tragic that any entertainer who brings such joy to their fans cannot also have some semblance of a normal life and the same joy that their fans experience.
Michael's writing is easy to read and brings the reader into his world as he shares his story. I feel as if I'm living his life with him through his words and stories. I did not follow MJ throughout his career but remember him and his music during the Thriller years. I am still surprisingly grief-stricken by his untimely death and tragic loss and have since been listening to his music again, some of the later music for the first time. It is evidence of his AMAZING talent to not only have a beautiful voice, but be able to sing and dance AT THE SAME TIME flawlessly. He not only wrote and produced his own music but also sang the lead as well as his own vocal background. Incredible!! Words cannot really describe all the gifts he had and good deeds he tried to do. There will be no other like him. He obviously was a sensitive, kind-hearted man as you hear his emotion in "She's Out Of My Life", "Will You Be There". It is tragic that all the good deeds he did through his charities weren't more publicly known during his lifetime - Guinness Record for Most Charities Supported By A Pop Star. But it seems he wanted to be that humanitarian without the glory of recognition that comes with it. It speaks to who he really was. And it is even more tragic that he could not enjoy and use his fame to fulfill his longing to help starving and ill children around the world - because of the greed of those he sought to bring solace.
When you finish reading "Moonwalk", I recommend obtaining further insight into Michael Jackson by reading "The Michael Jackson Tapes". Another excellent read for MJ fans wanting to know the "real" Michael in his own words. It is heart-warming in parts, crushingly painful and frightening in others. It gives insight into his dispair and prediction to his eventual early demise. For those who enjoy just watching MJ moves, his videos are mesmerizing - any and all of them. The Wiz is a delight to watch, and it grows on you, to see Michael in his youth and obvious joy in his work as he evolves into the "King of Pop"!2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

Meeting The Real Michael from his own mouth
Since it's Michael who is speaking, you get the true foundation of his essence and the way he saw life. No outside interpretation, thank goodness, is given here to falsely apply to MJ. Although "Moonwalk" was written when Michael was a young adult, it still reflects the consistancy that was instilled in him and remained even as he became older. Michael's other book, "Dancing The Dream" reflects that well. Upon opening the book, "Moonwalk", is a single page with MJ's autograph that he particularly wanted displayed there for his fans. I found it to be a very touching gesture. In addition, all of the photos and passages in this book, were personally chosen by Michael himself. In short, "Moonwalk" was a hands on project of Michael's. He was one who always aimed for perfection in his music, dance, lyrics, writing, production and artwork. As an animal lover and great humanitarian with a love for laughter, "Moonwalk" gives us that glimpse.
Get to know the true Michael through reading one of the only two books which he, himself in authority, wrote..... Moonwalk is one of them.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

moomwalk by michael jackson
This book shows Michael Jackson in control of his career and personal life. He's not as timid as the media portrays him to be. He also puts to rest alot of rumors about himself. Enjoyed the pictures in the book and Michael's drawing and autograph inside the front cover.I'm so glad the book was reissued after his death.
