    Captivating Early Australian History

I was captivated by this book and it gave me an insight into the early days of the settling of the colony and how difficult is was for both Convicts and those in authority. Originally I thought this was a book about Morgan the Bushranger but was pleasantly surprised that it was actually a novel about our first fleet and life on board the eleven ships going to the ends of the earth. Colleen has written an immensly enjoyable historical novel with great detail. She has instilled in me a need to know more about our early days and how the colony and township of Sydney was settled. I was only a little dissapointed that there wasn't more about the early days, exploration and development of the colony rather most of the action was centred around Norfolk Island which she writes so vividly about. The early part of the book provides a first hand view of what life was like in England and the was in which people of all classes existed some better than other, long before the settlement of Australia. I trust Collen will continue the tale of Richard Morgan, his trials and tribulations and extensions to his family. After book one, it will be essential reading. Interesting characters, both historical and those of the day weave an imanginative tale that kept me turning the pages. I wait with great anticiaption to learn more on the settlement of Australia.

    Wonderful history

I found this to be a book that I could hardly put down and when it was close to the end, I didn't want it to end. I would love a sequel. I would recommmend it to anyone interested in the history of Englands courts and prisons, of that time. Also the settling of Norfolk Island and its convicts who some didn't deserve to be there but made the most of it. Jan

With every disadvantage, love, hope and progress grew.

I have read The Thornbirds and also own the Videos. For me, Morgan's Run and The Grass Crown expressed much more depth and detail of the historical settings. English ships were most often 'horrors'. Even Abigal Adams in John Adams experienced their filth. Colleen McCullough's flow of words gave me a clear understanding of what it must have been to land in so much hostility and strangeness. The process of adapting held my interest to the final page. She must continue this story!

    History Comes Alive

I have just finished reading "Morgan's Run". What a wonderful book. Having just returned from holidaying on Norfolk Island, the book was additionally interesting as I could visulise the areas on the island where the convict settlement was established. I have loved and studied history since I was a young girl and this book fulfilled all my expectations of an historical novel. I found it hard to put the book down and couldn't wait to turn to the next chapter. Richard Morgan was a fascinating and wonderful character and I hope that Colleen will continue with his story.

This is one of the best books I've read....EVER !!!

I can hardly wait for the follow up book. I also think this is a movie waiting to happen. I suggest Russell Crowe as Richard Morgan. I just finished it today. It's been a long time since a book has kept me up after finishing it. I couldn't sleep thinking about the characters and where their lives had come from and went to and were still going. I was surprised to see 'The Floating Brothel' on the home page for books today. For those of you who haven't read Morgans Run, this new book is about one of the ships in Morgans Run. I must read it too. I can't imagine anyone not moved by this book. I know my husband and my son (21 yrs) will enjoy it just as much as I do in their own way.
