A Brilliant Album Of Sounds And Beauty
What's wrong with ''Frank Zappa-isms,'' man? Ain't nothin'. For real, this album is one of the most amazingly crafted works of art I have ever been witness to. The sounds within the album range from freaked-out bizarro funk to multilayered groove beats. Songs like ''One Of Those Funky Thangs'' utilize every instrument that exists, practically, throwing stuff in that only somebody like George Clinton could conceive of. Throughout the album, sound effects are created and used in the weirdest ways possible. Most notable is the ''underwater voice'' effect, which pervades most every track. Seeing that the album is supposed to illustrate a tripped out underwater dance party, I think that Clinton and the crew bring to full realization what a ''concept album'' should be. There's a DJ for the affair (''Mr. Wiggles''), the traditional no-fun P-Funk villains (Sir Nose'D and ''Rumpofsteelskin''), two beautiful ballads (''I'm A Fish And You're A Water Sign'' and the title track, which really gets down), some goofy funk monsters (''Aqua Boogie'' and ''Deep''), and two other very interesting tracks--the aforementioned ''One Of Those Funky Thangs'' and the wild ''Liquid Sunshine.'' Altogether, these elements make something that is indescribable, wonderful, outrageous, and brilliant all at the same time. Get this album and become one with the rest of the world--on earth and underwater--you'll be sure to get really ''deep.''Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
