My five year old granddaughter loves books and is able to read fairly well for her age. I have been trying to buy one new book a week to stimulate her mind and reading skills. "Mouse Soup" was definitely a hit! Since the first reading, my granddaughter has always wanted to read this book with me. Even after we read her new "book of the week" she wants to hear "Mouse Soup" once again. I think there were a number of very good lessons for a child to learn within the book. There also was a very good mix of humor in the book to keep a child's interest. The text is printed large enough for a small child to feel comfortable viewing and reading the story. The illustrations are interesting and seem to compel a short conversation on each page with each reading of the book. This would be an excellent pre-school book as well as early grade school. If I could find a dozen more books like "Mouse Soup" I would buy them all immediately.

Bizarre, both my kids hate it

Im not sure why this book has such high ratings. It was bizarre and made no sense. There wasnt even much of a moral, except for the story of the old lady with the thorn bush, it has no content. It attempts to be sort of like The Gruffalo or My Lucky Day, where dinner outsmarts its catcher, but it's done badly and is painfully long. If it was a hard copy, I would have returned it. Horrible waste of money and time.

    highly recommend

This was a great book for my 7 year old grandson and I to read. He struggles with reading, but enjoyed this book and was able to sound out most of the words he did not know.
