Behind the Scenes on Disney Animated Features

Mouse Under Glass is an unauthorized review of classic Disney animated features, from the first full-length animated feature Snow White through the release of Tarzan in the late 1990s. A plot summary is given for each movie, along with a summary of the original storyline the film was based on and a history of how the film was made. The author also notes any plot holes, bloopers, outtakes, strange reactions and more. Although this may not be interesting to the casual viewer, Disney fans (and you know who you are) will enjoy the behind-the-scenes story of how their favorite feature came to be made. Since the book is unauthorized, there are no pictures, which is certainly a short-coming for a book of this type, but perhaps you may feel somewhat compensated by the unauthorized material provided from interviews with animators, directors, writers, and others involved with the creative process. As a side note, author Koenig has also written two unauthorized volumes (Mouse Tales and More Mouse Tales) about the Disneyland park which are a treasure-trove of related information. Recommended.

    Hilarious and Informative

Having been a Disney obsessee for most of my childhood, it was difficult to find books that featured new information about the past of the Disney company. Also, most existing accounts were either Disney sanctioned tomes with, as Keonig put it, 'More backpatting than a Jerry Lewis telethon' or they were avid Walt-bashing. It has been my experience that Keonig is one of the few objective voices in the Disney discussion pool, and though, like me, he has been greatly disillusioned with Disney, he apparently still has an affection for it. Die-hard Disney fans will probably be offended at first when Keonig admittedly 'knitpicks', but he manages to recover with a lot of good humor.
