    Still my favorite!

This was my favorite book as a child & I looked high & low for it in antique, old book stores, etc. for 30 years. I still enjoyed it & my grandson loves it now too. The pictures are adorable. Gary Larson's afterword brought back even more memories.

    Found It At Last!

This book was a favorite of mine and my two sisters when were growing up. After our mother passed away this past spring we found that unfortunately the book had mysteriously disappeared. I was completely elated when I found that I could again get copies from Barnes & Noble and promptly ordered them for my favorite sister, my daughter, my grandchildren and myself for Christmas. This is the very best children's book ever written. Anyone who has never read it has missed the most wonderful story ever created. I can't help but feel that somehow my mother had a hand in my finding the book again. The 50th anniversary editions will be treasured by our family forever!

    Memories of Kindergarten

I never owned this book but I've been looking for it for many years. When I started kindergarten in 1950 it was the class favorite and we asked to have it read every story time. I don't remember anything else about 1950 but I remember 'Mr. Bear Squash-You-All-Flat'. Many, many years later I was wishing I had the book to read to my grandchildren and my kids couldn't believe there really was a book by that name. Everyone had a great laugh about my weird favorite childhood book. But my daughter searched and found the book for my birthday. What a treasure...the book and my daughter!

    A childhood treasure reissued

My siblings and I adored this book when we were kids and we all have been searching for it for many years. Unfortunately, a few years ago Stephen King mentioned in an interview that it was HIS favorite. The prices of the few used copies we could find soared to a preposterous level. ($150 in good shape, $65 for the sort of thing most mothers would throw away) Now I can afford a copy of my own, in good condition! Too bad it's too late for Christmas - it would have been the perfect gift. I can't wait to read it again and again and again...

    For my daughter

My brother and I loved this book when we were small back in the late 40's. I read the same book to my daughter in the 70's and it became one of her favorites. All of our Golden/Wonder books were lost in a move and I have been looking for this one over the past year, as a gift for my daughter. I can't wait to give it to her at Christmas, even though I wish I had the original book that was lost.

    Favorite Childhood Bedtime Story!

The re-surfacing of this fine childrens' book is an exciting event for my adult siblings and me. This well-loved book was circulated among many cousins, scribbled, worn and loved by all. It tells the tale of a grumpy, cranky and 'very stupid bear', not in the least Pooh-like in his manner. He searches out the dwellings of little forest animals, and squashes them Flat! No, not the little animal, themselves, thank goodness. This story is filled with small bon-mots for the adult reader, and sweet, silly pictures for the pre-reader. Gary Larson, of Far Side fame, called it one of his favorite childhood books. The very human concerns of the animals in this story are not unlike those expressed in many Far Side cartoons. While it's best read by my Dad, with his stentorian growly bear voice, the classroom of third-graders I read it to, yesterday, called it their favorite, too. That's probably the best recommendation of all!
