Don't bother with this book if you actually enjoyed Pride and Prejudice

I couldn't get past the first few chapters due to the glaring grammatical errors. Skipping to the last few chapters, it appears the writer decided to completely change the essence of a few main characters.

    Did the editor read this?

Using Jane Austen's original characters from Pride and Prejudice, Shapiro's sequel tries to immerse us in Austen's novel, right after Elizabeht's and Darcy's marriage. While the plot could be interesting, Shapiro's writing lacks of the thrill and feelings that Austen's novels provide, and therefore makes the plot seem dull and predictable.
Also, I wonder how conscious was her editor while reviewing the drafts. Not only commas are missing, but in the chapter 26, a fatal mistake was made, and I quote:
"She found, once more, that she had ple3
nty of reasons to be boastful" (Shapiro, pg. 176)

I think that mistake alone reflects the quality of the book.

    I Also Recommend:

Read too many of these and love this one!

Ok, I'll admit it. I'm kind of a Jane Austen dork. Do you have a Pride and Prejudice sequel? Well, I've probably read it. And I have to say, when you've read as many as I have they begin to mesh together big time. It's a lot of "wait...you say she's too fragile but I thought you taught her how to use a gun?" and "Georgiana and Co. Fitzwilliam? But what about that other guy who owns the estate not too far from Pemberley?"

But this one stuck out in my mind. The author has obviously read the book (unlike some which will not be mentioned) and took her time to come up with a couple of twists that could actually be possible. The characters are very true to Jane Austen characters and Shapiro's style mimics Austen's.

I just wish it were a bit longer.

Really Liked this book BUT BEWARE

Great story; good writing and fun to read- I highly recommend it to Austen purists and those who like a good story. The plot is fun and the Austen characters well done.

BUT BEWARE: This book was previously published in 2002. The previous title is Excessively Diverted. The first publisher was different as was the ISBN number. The publisher of this version does not provide this information.

    Not Impressed

I was very excited with I first read the excerpt to this book and when I finally brought it and started reading it I have to say I was truly disappointed with the direction of the characters written in the book. I would not recommended it for other to read.
