A good basic reader for beginning study of Mudras.
If you are starting yoga or intimidated by diving into the whole body form, this is a great starting point to the philosophy and practice.

Excellent Resource for this Aspect of Yoga
I purchased this book to augment my knowledge of yoga because mudras (at least on the East Coast of the US) tend not to be a significant part of yoga teacher trainings. The few that I had worked with previously had been very effective when working with anxiety and insomnia and I wanted to learn more.
Ms. Hirschi's book provides a wealth of knowledge about not only mudras but useful info about foods, aromatherapy, and affirmations to augment the effectiveness of the mudras to cover a host of different ailments. She also provides some guidelines about working mudras into a whole yoga practice, including a section on asanas and other practices to augment mudra practice.
There is a bit more focus on the mudras on physical problems, especially the digestive system, but as I continue to work with the mudras I find each of them also has mental/emotional effects--and all it takes to discover them is sitting with the mudras for a little while and paying attention to your own body, breath, and psyche.
I highly recommend this book to yoga teachers and practitioners--and I'm only withholding one star because I believe the book could have offered more information on the emotional aspects of each mudra.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Very nice work!!
The illustations are very well drawn and the text is easy to understand yet 'in depth'. Incorporates different schools of yoga as well as differents 'Paths' that are based around the use of the hands (acupressure, reflex zones, palmistry). All in all, a very good book that covers a lot of ground in Mudras.
