I have read all of the Gaslight books as soon as they came out, and re-read each before the release of the next. In the earlier books there was mystery, usually enough to keep one interested to the end or very near. In the later books, however, with the drama of the murder of Sarah's husband no longer looming, the series has lost something. This latest book does not offer much in the way of mystery; just pay attention to the character interaction and you're there. Further, the bit of romantic tension (these characters are far too proper to call it sexual tension) between Sarah and Malloy has all but dissipated. Being an honorable sort, Malloy would have long ago declared himself or gone away to leave Sarah to a more suitable match. The series needs an infusion of plot twists and character developments to remain interesting.
