Hated it, but now I can't stop listening

I bought this album because I really liked the song "Never Again"...very angry. I figured the rest of the album may be the same. Boy was I wrong! After a quick skim through the rest of the tracks I tossed it in my cd holder thinking I had wasted 14 bucks. I didn't pull it out again for about 3 weeks when I was on a road trip and needed something to listen to on those no-reception highways. I vowed to myself the give the whole cd a chance since I now had the time. WOW! being alone in my car and actually listening to the words....this is a great cd! I LOVE "mabye" and the hidden track....very funny! Now I cant get this cd out of my player...I have always loved the raw type of music, thats what attracted me to this cd in the first place...this is a must buy. Oh yeah, I am a dude by the way...this is one of my guilty pleasures! )

"My December" is nothing like the awesome, pop schlock of "Breakaway". But that's a good thing. She didn't just release a sequel. She release a more, depressed, angrier album with eclectic songs. No song is like the other. There's even a funk song called "Yeah". The best songs are the somber, heartfelt "Sober", the bare, melancholic and gutwrenching "Irvine", the haunting "Haunted", the potential radio hit "Judas", the gentle and seductive sounding "Be Still", and the hidden track "Chivas". The song "Hole" has a killer hook and i could see it doing well on radio. "How I Feel" would have been a better success on pop radio than "Never Again." It could have lured the "Breakaway" fans in. "One Minute" is also another potential radio song. The verses are kind of weird but the chorus is catchy. I also like "Maybe". It's vulnerable and raw. "Can I Have a Kiss" sounds similar to "Thankful"-her debut album-style rock. My least favorite song is "Don't Waste Your Time". Love the lyrics but it sounds weak. Lifeless.

Despite the recent media attacks, Clarkson's latest set, "My December," manages to compell its listeners with vigor. Leaving catchy hooks behind, Clarkson has found an entirely new way to gain audiences - emotion. "My December" is a platter chocked full of "love-gone-wrong" material, just as her past albums. However, the lyrics are sung from the heart. The songs are much more dark and deeper, especially cuts like the raging "Haunted" and the acoustic "Sober." However, the disc's most compelling moment is "Irvine," an emotional ride in the dark confessions of Clarkson. Set behind an acoustic guitar, Clarkson's almost-crying voice echoes in the emptiness of the track. It is absolutely brilliant. However, Clarkson has not completely left commercial/catchy material behind. Tracks like the lead single "Never Again," "One Minute," and "Can I Have A Kiss" all have memorable hooks and are quite catchy at times. Clarkson's only problem with the success of "My December" is are the songs catchy enough or will emotion and depth win fans over? Regardless, this near-flawless masterpiece will be a true winner in Clarkson's real fans.

I never owned a Kelly Clarkson CD, this was my 1st. I bought it because I admired the fact that she did this CD the way she wanted it and didn't care what anyone thought, and I like this album. Full of raw emotion, I also love her style! The cover and booklet looks fantastic, she did a great job, it's like you enter the mind of Kelly Clarkson and she totally rocks! Now I'm a fan. ="
