    Old Yeller X 2!

Great period piece told thru the eyes of a young boy and his relationship within his family and town using Skip as a vehicle of sorts to interpret Love, courage and angst. Really, really enjoyed this book.

    An American Classic!

My son has the VHS tape of this and has been watching it over the last few years. Recently, I read him the book, in only a couple hours, then we watched the movie together, and what a great afternoon and evening it was. This book, and movie, make you happy, sad, worried and cheerful. It also shows the adventures and troubles that one has with that very special friend, in this case, a boy and his dog. Read the book, THEN watch the movie!

    Really Nice Book

I enjoyed this book very much. It's written really well, and I read it in a day! I truly loved it because it's easy to understand and relate to. Practically anyone can read this book and enjoy it. The movie is good as well.

    A boy's best friend

This is the story of a boy and his childhood best friend, a smooth fox terrier named Skip. It relates stories of their many adventures growing up together including run-ins with snakes, giant spiders, even grave robbers, and being caught in a car with no brakes! These two live life to the fullest! This was a good, quick read and would especially be enjoyed by a boy with a love of dogs...

    Morris delivers once again!!!

In MY DOG SKIP,Willie Morris once again tells of his boyhood days in Yazoo MS, growing up alongside his pup. The adventures that Willie and Skip went on together during the WWII era are funny/heartwarming. If you are a dog fan, a child fan, a Morris fan, a southern fan, a WWII fan, a memoir fan, or a good book fan, pick up your copy of this book, and the Alcon Entertainment video while you are at it! You will NOT be disappointed with either!

    A dog and his boy

'My Dog Skip' is a dog story seen in large part from the dog's perspective. Skip grows into an adult dog while Willie is still a child. The movie makes clearer than the book how Skip was Willie's teacher, guiding him through the misadventures of youth. An early scene in the movie shows Skip's first view, from inside his cage, of Willie (rather than Willie's first view of Skip); in one of the last scenes, Skip watches Willie's bus departing for college (not, as in the book, Willie looking back through the bus window at Skip). The boy doesn't lose his dog, but the dog loses his boy. It wasn't until years later, when Willie Morris was himself an adult, that he was prepared fully to understand Skip's lesson about the meaning of loss, and to reciprocate Skip's devotion by writing this memoir.

Took me back to my own 1940's childhood in Ala.

The book is excellent in humor, descriptive narritive, and convincing historical fact of the times and genre. It is a wonderful story of a boy and his dog growing up in a special time and place.

If it's half as good as the movie....

The movie was very sad yet funny. I'm getting this book as soon as possible. In the movie it wasn't a Fox Terrier, It was a Jack Russel terrier. The story really deserves Infinity gold stars and thumbs up. This book is great, why? Because dogs rule!
