This book is a collection of 25 different essays from successful teachers of all grade levels explaining their first year teaching. Every teacher's story was different, but every individual seemed to overcome some sort of obstacle their first year. Most teachers found that teaching was not what they had expected. Some had troublesome students, some didn't feel like they were doing good enough, and some got very nervous. Each individual had at least one difficulty that they were faced with throughout their first year. Every essay ended with encouragement that the teacher had from being able to finish an entire year and learn from the experience. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I thought that this book was very inspiration for me since I want to go into elementary education myself. I was interested to hear that teaching is not always what you believe it will be. I think that I am much more aware of situations that I can face and individuals that I will have to deal with. This book has encouraged me to not give up when I begin my career. I have learned that I will not be a perfect teacher, but I will always have the ability to improve.

This book helps!
Not only is this 'guidance' for the aspiring teacher, but it is a real look into what goes on in the classroom. At times this book is heartwarming, and at times it is disturbing...But either way, it was extremely useful for me - an aspiring teacher - to find out what I can expect when I begin my job--the good, the bad, and the ugly alike! Was this review helpful?
