Validation - You Are Not The Only One Who Ever...

I read Nancy Friday's Secret Garden back in the 70s when it first came out. As amazing as the fantasies are - and with all due respect to the Critic's Review, they ARE pretty amazing - what was more amazing was the sheer variety, and the courage and strength of the women who dared to write to a stranger and reveal the thoughts that they weren't supposed to have. Friday's commentary makes interesting reading, and for all that it's been over 30 years since this book first made headlines - girls have not changed all that much. As a mother of teenage girls, and as someone who works with and spends time with young women in many settings, I can testify to the fact that while the young women of today may be more openly accepting of their own sexuality - in the world of fantasy, each of them still feels that she is the only girl in the world who thinks these dirty thoughts. Friday's respondents are remarkably candid, wonderfully creative and heartbreakingly alone. There's far more to this book than the fantasies... there's validation for every woman who ever believed that there must be something wrong with her for having these thoughts.

Really interesting scoop on female sexuality

This book is a diverse compilation of women's sexual fantasies, arranged in a neatly organized way. Friday categorizes commonly themed fantasies in order to show readers similar threads that women fantasize about.

I would have never expected that women's fantasies could be so detailed and complex. Some of the scenarios that women write about are very vivid and fascinating. Some were tame, others very taboo by today's standards.

I mainly read this book to gain insight on female sexuality and for entertainment purposes. It was such a good read, that it seemed to breeze by.

Although most of the book is a compilation of letters and interviews, Friday also takes the opportunity to comment on certain sexual themes with her expertise in sexuality. A great read, for sure.

This was really an eye opener for me especially being a man. I never realized how much women are highly sexual. I always thought that guys wanted more sex then women but really its the other way around. Women have a multitude of fantasies and this book reveals it!

    I Also Recommend:

    A classic.

This book has been out for many years, but there is a reason--it still rings true. The stories/fantasies in it are there for women to read and to relate to. Ms. Friday does a great job compiling these and putting it out there for the world to see. A great read and a classic.

    Raw and Explicit

Wow. This is really the real deal. Real fantasies written by the women who had them. This was fascinating reading, although it got a little strange sometimes. It is impossible to read this book and not find your own fantasy in it. The only book I have enjoyed more is Bedtime Stories for Women, because I preferred reading the fantasies in a story form, and the combination of the erotic fantasies with fairy tales was very well done.

    A Breakthrough Book

I bought 'My Secret Garden' when I was starting out as a freshman in college back in the fall of 1993. A lovely read, definitely a 'bedtime' book!
