Very Disappointed
The story just quit. It is like it was part of the book. I assumed since it didn't say part or preview in the description, that is was a complete book. NOT SO. I would like to be able to finish the story. What was there was very well written.

Great Read!!!
I will be reading more of Rachel Vincent's books. This book was a thrill ride and I found myself getting pulled in with every turn of suspense. I can't wait to see how "Kaylee's" life unfolds with this powerful and bone-chilling supernatural ability she has.

Prequel To A Fantastic Series!
For those that may be confused, this is a brief prequel to Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series. It's an introduction to the main character, Kaylee Cavanaugh, and a few of the other players featured in the full length books that follow. I really enjoyed the set-up. Kaylee is at the mall with her best friend and is overcome by an intense and uncontrollable urge to scream after seeing something strange surrounding a young boy, that she is sure is about to die. She ends up in a psych ward, and that is just the beginning... This is a fantastic series! I think that fans of the Twilight saga, as well as paranormal teen romance in general will really enjoy Kaylee's story.

Incomplete and not a good start
I had some hopes for the book, but the story just stops right in the middle of the beginning. It is very obviously a book fragment being passed off as a whole book!
The portion I read seemed to be OK at best and I'm kind of glad the rest of the book was missing.5 out of 8 people found this review helpful.

Definately A Must Read Series!!! Please keep in mind that "My Soul to Lose" is more of an excerpt than an actual book.
I read this excerpt because it's stated to be somewhat of a prequal to the actual series, plus it was free. I was completely sucked in within the first few minutes of reading. The story was fresh, new, and most of all different. Yes it is short and doesn't have much to go on, but that's because it's a background story to the actual series. I don't think think this is meant to stand alone as a complete story/book, but more to give us a quick glimpse the same way trailers do for a movie. So people leaving negative remarks without actually reading the 1st book of the series, My Soul to Take, need to actually read the actual book then leave their opinion. I have already read the 1st book and and moving on the 2nd. Can't wait til June for the 3rd. Way to go Rachel for a great new series!!!

Novellas are Great Teasers & Intro to the Series
First, to all the people who put ONE star on this because it was too short... GO LOOK UP NOVELLA IN THE DICTIONARY!!! This was a great novella to introduce Kaylee to the "Soul Screamers" series. So was the novella, "The Reaper". These cheap (or in my case, FREE) novellas to a series is a great way to give you lots of background on a character and hook you for good! I have read all the "Soul Screamers" books and they are GREAT!! Can hardly wait for the next one.... I hope there are more to come!!!

Loved it!
I decided to start reading these series after seeing the big hype it caused on the net, and constant good reviews If I Die got.
It was so good from the beginning, reading this book kinda of prepares you to what's coming in the the sequel, it has mystery and a bit of horror but mostly it's really good written :)
It's somehow close to The Body Finder in concept but it's much better.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

very disappointed
I thought that I had a book, not a preview. What happened to the book only 53 pages and it was over. Did she run out of imagination? Will there be a part 2 to this short, very short story?? I was so sure that this was a mistake that I contacted the BN support only to find out that this was the book... 53 pages. Very misleading and would not recommend this to anyone......

Excellent look into Kaylee's past
MY SOUL TO LOSE, by Rachel Vincent, is the prequel novella to her Soul Screamer's series. In My Soul To Take, it is mentioned that Kaylee spent some time in a mental hospital because of her "condition". This novella shows the events before and during her stay in the hospital.
I was excited to see a few of my favorite characters even for a short time. The inclusion of Emma and Nash was a special treat for me! And the introduction of one new character in particular gave me chills. Lydia is a patient at the mental hospital, and Kaylee is curious about this quiet girl. We later find out the reasoning for her inclusion in this place but a bit of mystery still tingles in the back of my mind.
Overall, if you are a fan of this series, you will love this little snippet of Kaylee's life before the series began.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Pleasantly surprised
Expected a full book when I choose this one. Instead got 1 in a series. Even so book was a nice short read. Kept me interested and looking forward to the next book in the series.

Good
I thought that this was a good free ebook. I enjoyed it and now I plan on reading the rest of the series. The beginning started out just a little boring for me, but after she had her panic attack at the mall I thought that it got interesting. The only problem is that it is a very bad stand alone, now I feel like I have to read the rest, but I guessing that was the point and it worked.

Free..good.
Good thing this was free for nook owners, because it was really short and didn't really give information. Nothing that couldnt be added to the first book.

Good but short
Good story, exciting plot. But too short. I was expecting a full novel. Seems like you have to purchase the next book to see what happens to the main character.

I felt very frustrated for Kaylee, reading this novella. I really enjoyed this novella as it made me feel more for her character than I probably have since reading the series. To wake up cuffed to a bed in the Mental Health Centre , scared and sore and confused.
Lydia is a little mystery, who is she? I figure not a Banshee. I am glad Kaylee had this girl who obviously understood her and helped her. More than her own family.
Aunt Val needed a good slap from me...karma is all I will say. As I read My Soul To Take before I read the prequel novella, it made me even more annoyed at Kaylee's aunt and uncle....really how dare they be so disloyal to family. How awful to be placed in a Psych Ward when they knew what was wrong with her. Her uncle really should have known better. I am still a little confused as to why he even let it happen, it's not like it was going to go away. Kaylee needed help from those she trusted who understood. -

Quick
I love this author's style. Her writers voice is quick and to the point. She writes young. Very concise. I fell in love with her jungle cat seried and was not surprised by this book. I was glad that she was able to write about a different topic and branch out more.

A great beginning!
Kaylee is just happy, happy to have a bestfriend like Emma who is going to help her plot a little revenge on her ex-boyfriend who left her before homecoming and had the nerve to ask Emma instead of her. But Em is a really good friend so together they have a master plan...

That Kaylee is about to miss when, while shopping, she feels it coming her way, creeping on her lungs, jerking to get free. She is about to scream in the middle of the mall and show the whole world her biggest secret: she is a freak.
Or so she thinks. But in fact Kaylee doesn't know what's wrong with her, what are the shadows that she sees sometimes around people or why does she have this sudden urge to scream so badly when she spots one of these shadows.
And now her secret is out because she couldn't help herself and HAD to do it. Poor Kaylee wakes up in a mental hospital where she discovers that she actually hurt herself trying to stop the screaming and now she only wonders when are her aunt and uncle going to take her home. Far away from the real crazy people inside that place and far far away of her fears...
Personal opinion:
I'm so happy. Really, I'm beyond happiness right now. I have finally read the first novella of the Soul Screamers series and now all I want to do is continue with the other books... but I have to take it easy, right? xD
My thoughts? I loved it. It was short and quick but it was so well written that I actually forged a bond with Kaylee. And that means a lot for me so... I have to stop writing and continue with the next one :D
Oops, before I leave, can I give you an advice? If you haven't read this series yet you might want to reconsider that. Seriously, I all the books and novellas a few months ago and I can't understand why didn't I start reading them before... So, yeah, go and buy them, borrow them, don't know, just read them xD
