A good chronology of events, but ultimately disappointing

I had just read a fictionalized account of Nelson's life, and eagerly approached this biography. I was ultimately disappointed. It is obvious that the author did his research, and he was able to relate the chronology of Nelson's exploits adequately. However, his writing made the book difficult reading at best. It is unfortunate because this would have been a wonderful biography but for its monumental lack of editing. Even if one ignores the fragmented flow of ideas, it is hard to get past the simple grammatical mistakes which any editor worth his salt should have corrected. Combined, these two factors detract from one's enjoyment of an otherwise entertaining and informative story of Britain's great naval hero.

Not as much new material or insights as I hoped

Yet this is still an attractive looking book that narrates Lord Nelson's life well. Very good bio for someone new to the admiral's life. Recommenmded.

    Awesomely Detailed

Wow! The amount of research must of been overwhelming. The battle between Nelson's incessant need for fame, and his almost Co-dependent desire for love was brilliantly depicted by Vinbcent. I enjoyed every minute of it!!

Very nice book by a fairminded writer

This is a very stylish book, published in a high quality format with an easy writing style that makes the large number of pages bearable. While it is not as good as Hayward's new stunner (see below) and doesn't teach us anything not found in Pocock's excellent biography, it is nonetheless one of the better single-volume Nelson biographies to appear in recent years. All Nelson collectors will probably buy this , and probably should.
