The Nelson’s Annual Preacher Sourecebook is as it sounds, it’s a compilation of sermon outlines, as well as inspiration for all the major holidays. This book is packed full at almost 600 pages of essays, funeral and wedding examples, full transcripts and more! Now in it’s third volume, each book is edited by O.S. Hawkins who is the former pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas and is the current president of Guidestone Financial and is the other of over ten books.
Be prepared to receive a book as big as a paper back bible – this book is filled with more information than you could use in a year. In the back there are sample forms, notes, an exhaustive index and essays to read. Each sermon comes written to you from one of 10 authors either current working pastors, or seminary professors or movers-and-shakers in theological circles.
I am always looking for new inspiration when writing sermons and to be honest, I was a little worried to review a “book” since transcribing a bunch of stuff, doesn’t really sound fun – GOOD NEWS! The book includes a CD-ROM. Each file is included on the disc in rich text format and is listed alphabetically by author.
I think the best way to use this resource is to skim a few sermons a night before bed and then to jot a few notes down in the upper corner – remind yourself if you’d use it, when you’d use it, what the sermon was about – etc. And then – if you decide to use it, go back to the CD-ROM and pull it up.
This is a great tool – I will certainly be getting volume four when it comes out.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson for this preview copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book has a wide variety of sermons to choose from and great ideas to ponder upon. As a preacher myself, it is a book that adds to my understanding about the passage of Scripture given there. I don’t follow them but it allows me to better grasp some topics presented. Somehow I was not really excited about this book because of several reasons. Firstly, a preacher needs to hear from God and not extract from other preachers. Secondly, following it may damper the creativity of a preacher. Lastly, the audience in each congregation is different and sometimes a sermon may work well in one but totally disastrous in another. So, for me, I am just okay with this book. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

This book is exactly what the title says. It takes a wide variety of sermons from excellent preachers and outlines the main points and ideas. The book is full of sermons over specific topics (wedding, funerals, holidays) as well as sermons over specific books of the Bible or specific Biblical topic. Was this review helpful? I originally got this book for a relative who is a senior pastor. I thought this would make a great resource for him as he plans his sermons and leads his church. After looking through it and reading it myself, I found I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. While its primarily written for pastors, it is a great resource for anyone who wants to study Biblical topics.
Overall, I think this book is an excellent resource for pastors and I strongly recommend it.
