Jerry Boykin tells his story of growing up in North Carolina, his days as a cadet and football player at Virginia Tech and his service in the US military. Gen. Boykin is a decorated vet., an origional member of Delta Force, and he served in the most important military missions of the last 30 plus years. He goes into detail of what really happened in the aborted rescue attempt of the hostages held at the the US embasy in Tehran. He gives the reader details of the Battle of the Black Sea later depicted in the book 'Blackhawk Down' and the movie of the same name. He documents his dealings with the American far left-wing media and their attempts to bring him down while he served at the Pentagon. A far right-wing, biggoted, religious zealot, as NBC tried to portray him, Boykin is not. Rather he is an American warrior who happens to believe that the US is in a struggle with evil (not Islam)in our war on terror. He is not anti-Muslim and does not see Muslims as evil, but rather sees that our enemies are thugs wrongly using Islam as a shield. Boykin is a Christian and he tells of instances where his faith was strengthened in the midst of adversity. It is the story of an interesting life of courage under fire at home and abroad. During these trials Gen. Boykin never gave up and the book illustrates his strength and resolve to do what was right. The book is an action-packed, fast-paced read that is hard to put down. Soldiers like Boykin are the reason we still live in a free society.

Typo?

I'm half way through the nook book, and noticed on page 187 he says "I am stashing it when an invisible sledgehammer crashes into my left shoulder...but my left hand no longer works. My left arm no longer works." "I lay down my carbine and reach over with my right hand to find the stump of my shoulder."

On page 195, the fourth paragraph, "Your nerve is so damaged that it is very unlikely that it will regenerate. There's a very good possibility that you'll never use your right arm again."

It's a small error; otherwise the book is a good read. I particularly like cross referencing it with Eric Hanley's Inside Delta.

"Jerry" Boykin life and his struggles.He is "the former commander of U.S. Army Special Forces and Founding Member of Delta Force" and a military hero.It is well written with depth and details.What an amazing story of courage,faith, devotion to his country and his faith,how a soldier surrounded with war,history,danger,and circumstances continued on with his faith,family and friends.While LTG Boykin takes his readers on a journey through his struggles with recent events and the drama surrounding it,he also will touch your heart with his strong faith,believe in his country and his family.As he said in his book "America is a melting- pot society".Our "cause is just"."That's why we are the good guys and why we will never surrender". A True Christian Americian Hero!

I could not put this book down! I am a mystery lover but this book beats any fiction out there! You can not put it down. I have heard this man speak in person and thought I had heard every thing but I was wrong. This shows every Americian how anti-Christian our goverment and main stream media can be-no! How anti-Christian our goverment and main stream media IS! Thank you Sir for your devout service to this country and some of it's ungrateful citizens.

SO SO GOOD

I was so mad when I finished this book because I didn't want to stop reading it. I am about to start reading it for a second time, I highly recommend this book.

Amazing

General boykin is an encouragement to those of us serving and are of faith. His strengrh throughout his career should be an example to all military leaders.

An inside perspective on the challenges and accomplishments of the Delta Force. This is a good book.

I have a much better understanding and appreciation for what those behind the scenes do everyday to protect our freedoms. The committment and personal sacrifice made by many, yet often unnoticed or unappreciated by the general public, is exhibited in this quick, educational and interesting book. Thank you Lt. Gen Boykin for all you have done for our country and for writing this book to give the reader a front row seat.

Just Excellent!

I love reading books about Military History, especially ones about Special Ops guys because they are the ones that we here nothing about on the news. As I was serching this site for my next book I came across Never Surrender, thought it looked interesting and clicked to see what others thought of this book. As I read the reviews I became more and more intrigued by this mans career. After I bought it I became so cought up in his story that i almost got half way through on the first day. What made it so easy to read was the short chapters. Other books I have read have chapters that go on for up to 25-30 pages, after a while that becomes confusing and i loose interest fast. I am honored to have read this book and am proud to know that men like Jerry Boykin are fighting for our country. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!!

Well-Written and Inspiring!

William Boykin does an excellent job of describing what it was like to be a founding member of America's Delta Force. His first-hand description of the Desert One rescue attempt was riveting. His analysis of how Washington and the media grandstands for votes and readers was insightful. The book was well-written and inspiring.

A Man's Book

My husband and I are very different people. I am an avid reader he would tell you that he hates to read. Nevertheless, when this book came into our home, he picked it up. (Trust me, that's unusual.) He turned a couple of pages, and when I gently suggested he take a look at it, he began to read! He did not stop that first day until he got to sixty-some pages. The following day, he picked it up and read some more! As we drove down the street one day, he began to tell me about this man's life. I asked, 'If this were made into a movie...' 'I'd go see it!' he exclaimed, interrupting me. On another day, he stated, 'This man is a machine! You can't believe the things he's done!' Well, he finished reading the book! Yep, he read all 350 pages, and he loved it. Obviously, this is a compelling read. Covered are Noreiga's arrest, and the tracking of Escobar, the Colombian drug lord. Boykin tells the truth about Delta Force's involvement during the Waco, Texas fiasco and clears up the 'false story' from CIA agents that the news agencies reported. It's a man's story, made for a real man's enjoyment. Buy it for the guy in your life he'll read it, even if he's a non-reader!

General Boykin provides the reader with great detail in the battle between right and wrong, and the path to develop one's personal set of values. This book is absolutely fascinating, riveting and powerful. If you enjoy military novels¿especially those about the Special Forces¿then this book is a must read. Likewise, I encourage students to read this book to learn more about leadership, ethics and integrity!
