This is a great summary of how Jim Clark progressed in his life to start and grow 4 billion dollar companies including Silicon Graphics, Netscape, Healtheon (now WebMD), and myCFO. The stories in this book are unusual and amazing. Some of the key topics covered include how Jim Clark found and recruited some of the best people (many computer people from the school IIR in India). You will learn how he created and gathered a constant stream of new ideas, many of them not useful and a few great ones. You will learn how he (and many other founders of companies) got pushed out of his own company by venture capital investors. If you are growing a company or getting investment for your business, this book is likely to help you.

eBook more expensive than paperback

The eBook version is $14 and the paperback is $11. What gives? I will NEVER by an eBook version that is more expensive than the physical item. BN should guarantee every NOOK owner that they will ALWAYS pay less for an eBook version. THAT is how you build a loyal customer base and distinguish yourself from the competition.

Unputdownable!

This is the best factual book I have read for such a long time! It was so gripping that I found myself checking the facts on the net just to convince myself that these people exist. Top rate tale telling.

Silicon Valley - The Land of Oz

The New New Thing by Michael Lewis is a non-fiction novel that reads as though it is a fairy tale. Silicon Valley is like the Land of Oz where hopes, dreams and possibilities come true when done through computer technology. It is an accounting of the extraordinary events that occurred in the 1990's in Silicon Valley and how these events began to alter how we communicated with each other, did busines with each other, etc. The author has followed one individual, Jim Clark, who was responsible for these dramatic changes. Lewis' main character is the Wizard of Oz, a Superman, the Pied Piper of Computer Programmers, a Robin Hood of sorts with a dash of Christopher Columbus thrown in for good measure. The New New Thing is excellent reading and as often described on jackets of other novels, 'you won't want to put the book down until you have finished it'.

Vision is as vision does! Inspiring! Read this book to open your eyes to what is possible! Great writing by Mr. Lewis. A fascinating chronicle...I learn more and more with each new reading. Let this book inspire you!!

Truly, Jim Clarks became the world's most important technology entrepreneur by inventing Netscape, obtaining the magical ingredients and made outstanding recipe for Success. Everyone in life is given the same ingredients required by the recipe but it is up to the individual to spice it up or leave it bland and unrecognized. That recipe was to serve the hungry honorees of the undeveloped and unestablished Silicon Valley, the venture capitalists, engineets of the future...The New New Thing would be an inspiriation to readers seeking Success, by way of their endeavors to make an outstanding mark in life. Jim Clark's life on his paved road to success and accomplishments, acknowledges and offers helful insight on staying focus and being the master of one's fate and captain of one's soul...I found myself often doing a self-assessment, and questioning my ingredients, to help determine what kind of chef I would be. Jim Clark's life is the ideal examples that things often turn out for the better. I truly enjoyed this book.

Truely Penetrating

Never guessed that a book could be so entertaining. When I returned from Mars, I wanted to figure out how the world works. Because otherwise how am I to adapt to it. So I bought books on key topics such as how the mafia works. You know books by Mario Puzo. This rates in that catagory.Truely sensational!!!!!

Clark Does It Again!

Jim Clark is a fascinating man. He has the ability to repeatly come up with new ideas. Clark knew Microsoft's power so he continuously came up with new ideas knowing one day his ideas would become 'Bill Gates ideas'. The NEW NEW Thing is a book I would recommend to everyone. Micheal Lewis is a writer who will keep you interested throughout the book. The book also gives you the opportunity to understand the way minds work at Silicon Valley, from the venture capitalist to the engineers who actually make the product.

Great Insight

I enjoyed reading about the inner workings of Silicon Valley and Jim Clark in particular. The book is worth a read because of its unique approach - focusing on one individual and his paths to success.

It's not great...

Excellent

Healtheon is a perfect example of hype around Jim Clark's name and ignorance of the investment community when it comes to high-tech startups. Keep buying those shares :-)

Better than Liar's Poker

Michael Lewis has outdone himself with this book, its funnier than Liar's Poker. Well worth reading, just to find out how Silicon Valley works.
