Enchanting!
This is a fabulous read with beautifully drawn characters, excellent writing and a compelling story. Jen Nails does such a terrific job of bringing these people to life.

Funny
I laughed, I cried, I bought a small ranch on the Rio Grande to relive the experience. Well, no, I didn't do the last bit, though woulda if I coulda. I DID buy a copy for my 10 year old ... and another one for his sister when she said, Hey! And two more for my neices. One, two three ... that's eight big thumbs up all around. And no wonder, it's a great story, funny, affecting with a super ending. Don't believe me? Okay, try this. Open up the book. Start reading. Now try to stop. See? You can't, can you? It's impossible. That's what great writing is all about. Enjoy!

Lylice is an eccentric girl who is skipping a grade and going straight into sixth. Is she ready for the changes that middle school brings? After all, her best friend last year was the elementary principal!

She is assigned to be Mexico Mendoza's English buddy. The girls soon realize that although they have their differences, they can find common ground. Lylice feels that Principal Harrington has it in for her, and both girls fight together to keep the art programs in their school.
This is a story of a friendship that is shared between two girls who want desperately to fit in yet hold on to their individuality at the same time. Lylice is full of surprises and, though she seems a bit odd at first, she draws you into her life.
I highly recommend NEXT TO MEXICO.
