    What a transformation!

Beauty has always been something very hard for me to come to terms with. I, like so many other girls, have been focusing on my outward appearance - wondering if my top is in season, if my hair is too frizzy, whether my blemish it too noticeable... It's a never-ending cycle that began in my early teens and has only worsened as I have matured. What I love about this book, is that for the first time, I took a step back from the mirror. Finally, my reflection wasn't the sum of my beauty. Rather, I was able to feel beautiful from within, which in turn, helped me become more beautiful outwardly. It was an overall transformation of how I interpreted beauty... not only in regards to myself, but to those all around me.

What's so fun about this book, is that it's not all just reading! In every chapter, there are fun challenges to complete - self-portraits and beauty challenges that really make the book literal. At times, I felt silly or beside myself taking my own pictures and applying his teaches to my photoshoots. But in the end, that's what really helped me develop. I was forced to feel and be things I usually am not. And with that, I finally was able to find beauty, as I defined it!

One chapter that really helped me the most was about Compassion. One of the challenges is to take action with an organization close to your heart. I went out with a local environmental group in my home town to clean our city's parks and plant trees. It was by far one of the most rewarding days I've had in a while. And what's best about the experience: standing there, covered in sweat, with dirt all over my jeans, shirt and face, I took in the view of the park. The before and after was amazing. The litter was no more, and in place, a row of freshly planted trees took to new life. In that moment, without an ounce of makeup on and in dire need of a shower, I felt more beautiful than I had ever felt in a dress and heels. It was something so much more than that. It was an understanding of actually being beautiful as to simply wearing something beautiful. It was my action, rather than my sole appearance.

    I Also Recommend:

    I LOVE Nigel Barker!

What a fabulous book. Nigel has some great insights into how to always looks great in photos. I always try to look cool but end up looking silly. Can't wait to now use my Beauty Equation and do all the cool chalenges he ends every chapter with.
And the book is so fun. He seems more serious on Top Model but he writes some really funny stuff. He used a lot of girls from the show including my favorite, Shandi. All the photos are by Nigel (or of Nigel when he was a model...yum) and are gorgeous. I see on his website that he is doing a book tour. I will be first in line to get my copy signed!
