    Become an Ironman

Nile is a beautifully written book. T. Lidd has a way of pulling the reader into the pages to become part of the Hawkeyes team of 1939. The game's play-by-play is exciting and very descriptive for even the non-football fan. Nile leaves you wanting more of these legendary Ironmen.. would love to see this on film! After reading this, even a born and bred Buckeye can become a Hawkeye fan!

    A terrific read!

I don't think my review can do this book justice. I am a longtime Iowa Hawkeye fan who actually saw Nile Kinnick play football at the University of Iowa. I started reading the book and I could not put it down! I thought Mr. Lidd had some tremendous insights into Nile Kinnick's character. This book is a must read for anyone who considers themselves a Hawkeye. Or, for anyone who wants to read about the life of a real hero. Every university has a hero but Nile Kinnick is pretty hard to beat. I would be very surprised if people don't go crazy over this book. Mr. Lidd is an excellent writer and I look forward to reading more from him. What a great story this would make for the big screen.

Great combination of fact and fiction -- good book for readers of any age

NILE is a great read-- for readers of any age. I really enjoyed learning about the lives of these college students in the late 1930s. The book really takes you there. The characters are interesting people that I wanted to learn more about, and you certainly don't have to be a football fan to enjoy NILE. The main character is a star athlete, but he and his teammates are much more than football players. It's a book about young people during a tough but interesting period in our country's history. The book is a novel of sorts, but I also liked the fact that much of NILE is based on historical fact. You can't go wrong with this book.

    Great book!

This was indeed a great book! My husband received a copy as a gift. I picked it up, started reading and was hooked. It was so much more than a football book. The story was a wonderful combination of college football, college life, personal relationships, national events and even some world history. I was impressed by the author's research and it was well written. We have already given our children their own copies.

Tom Lidd scores a touchdown with this great book!

Nile is a great read, recounting the years of the Hawkeyes becoming the "Ironmen". You can't walk away from this book not feeling inspired and hopeful of what can be. Most of us would rather read the book, than watch the movie. In this case, I would rather read the book than watch the game.

My question: Where is the screenplay for NILE?

I just got finished reading NILE and can't wait for this story to be told on the big screen. What an inspiring story! As a football fan, I knew Nile Kinnick won the Heisman Trophy and thought this book would be all about football. Instead, its a great read about teamwork, dedication, and all the intangibles of winning and leadership --- on and off the football field.

Great story about a great American

What a tremendous young American we learn about in NILE. I read it straight through and would recommend to all readers and any football fans!
My Christmas shopping will include several copies for family and friends!

    NILE

NILE is a story about an incredible person with tremendous morals, doing incredible things during a time of uncertainty. Nile was a hero more than once. The author captured the moment in an easy-to-read novel. This story can be enjoyed by readers ages 12-99. It was very enjoyable, and a story that needs to be told.

Nile, more than just a football book.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The football part is excellent. It points out the rules that are different than they are today, especially the substitution rule which makes it a whole different game. Nile also shares a historical perspective of the 1930's and the depression from many different angles. The detailed descriptions of the people and places paint a real picture in my mind. The book is a tribute to Nile Kinnick, the only Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Iowa, a school with a long and proud football tradition and is written by a true fan. I am left wondering what the future would have held for Nile Kinnick, an American hero.
