I found this book on a list of the top ten crime and mystery novels of 2009. I was looking forward to a great read. I didn't like the writing style in the least. it was choppy and disjointed and required that you plow right through in order to follow the story. No savoring any great sentences or sequences because there weren't any. It was grim, it was gritty and it was foul. The "F" word happens to be one that I use when appropriate, but the author's use was overkill. The two "C" words were used ad nauseam. The good guy in the story anally rapes a woman he's had sex with a few times and she allows him to spend the night, even though she is bleeding and in pain. I would have cracked him over the head with an iron skillet. Nothing bad that happened to him after that bothered me in the least. Keep in mind he was the good guy. He was always in a state of filth for one reason or another because of the investigating he was doing. The story is all tied up at the end, but all I wanted at the end of this book was a hot bath. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
