    The Eyes of the Storm

Based on the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the city of New Orleans, this book shows the courage and strength that people must have had in order to survive such a fearful time. Author Jewell Parker Rhodes dubs the heroine of the story to be a 12-year-old misfit girl who uses all of her power of mind, body, will, and special "sight" to figure out how to save herself and others from perishing in the flood that has buried her neighborhood and most of New Orleans. Through Rhodes's words, the determination to survive is felt along with the sadness towards such disaster. At the end of the story, the most important feeling revealed is that of hope - hope that all sorrow will pass and that a brighter future will transpire.

    Great youth read

I really enjoyed this book because the Katrina story was told through a child's eyes.

    The ninth ward

Overall this book was very good. But I thought that the ending came way to soon. The author should of explained IN THE STORY how New Orleans was restored and how the people were more engaged, untined. And also how the New Orleans Saints brought hope to New Orleans after winning that first game in the super dome. The characters personalities were amazing!Mama Yaya was very inspiring. And it just reminded me of New Orleans. My home. My family. N.O. STANDS STRONG!

In the Ninth Ward you will discover that Mama Ya-Ya has always taken care of Lanesha, but when Hurricane Katrina hits their little New Orleans town, it's Lanesha's turn. Read the book to figure out how and what Lanesha does! I also highly recommend this book if you like a story about ghosts, adventure, hope, and courage. WARNING!! This book will make you cry and you wont be able to take your eyes off it!!!!
