Not your typical story about the Holocaust

This book was one of those that you start and either finish in one night or draw out because it is so well written, you don't want it to end. The author took me places. He made me think about the roles of redemption and what it means to love. Great book......

    Not To Be Missed

This is a personal story of a present day man and his father, a retired elder man who is living in south Florida. He learns many things about his father and himself during his Florida visits that makes this journey not to be missed. This book is must reading for every "boomer".

    Outstanding

This was one of the finest works of fiction I have read. I equate 'Not Me' with some of the finest prose ever written. It flowed beautifully with gripping story line.

    Military overload

I really liked this book, but found the journal entries to have too much military details with litle to no emotional pull. Great writing and very intriguing storyline.

Very unique plot, engrossing, filled with original thoughts.

From the minute you start to read this book you will be engrossed into its story. Very unique plot; I kept thinking that I couldn't imagine how the author came up with this idea. The main character is realistic and you want him to work things out. And in the end, it makes you wonder - how do any of us know if the stories we are told of our ancestors, are really ture? Great read for book clubs and discussions.

    Good story - Too short!

I think the idea was great. And the story was amazing. But I was left feeling like something was missing. It felt like the story was rushed and too much info was crammed into a small book. I wish the author had developed the story and let the book be 500 pages rather than rush the story so it was only 300 pgs. For example, the father had written 24 journals but the parts of the journals shared wouldn't even fill up one journal. It was a nice read, but I was left disappointed and wanting more.

Good story = could have been more developed

It was a great story idea -- some of it dragged a little. The main character could have been more developed -- what he had to deal with was very intense - but it was a good read and I finished it in record time.

    Unusual Plot Twist

I read nearly half the book in the first sitting! The writing style was flowing and kept moving you forward at an amazing pace. This is quite an unusual piece of writing and I was struck by the fact that it was Lavigne's first published book and asked myself how he came up with this story. Did something like this really happen during the holocaust? It made me think of stories I've heard about the experiences people have and how much is actual fact, embellished or not true. Michael is faced with a terrible dilemma when he reads the shocking writings in his father's journals. How can he ever find out who his father really is?

    Not what I expected

This book was quite a let down. The characters are so poorly developed that I found myself not caring about any of it. Not one character was likeable or relatable and I didn't feel anything for them at any point in the reading. Also, if you don't speak yiddish, a good chunk of the book will be incomprehensible. But I guess my biggest complaint is some of the plot twists and sub-stories were pointless and added for no reason other than to make the book dramatic. The idea was good and it could have been an interesting theme, but it just didn't do anything for me.

FATHER AND SON DISCOVER EACH OTHER.

THIS BOOK WAS INTERESTING AND AN INTRIGUING STORY. IT DEALS WITH AN UNUSUAL SITUATION BETWEEN A FATHER AND SON. THERE IS MYSTERY, HUMOR, AND
CURIOUSITY THROUGHOUT. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO PUT IT DOWN.
