This novel is a classic. The story of the struggles between social classes and young romance never gets old. This story is a historical novel, but you could easily imagine the hero and heroine set in a contemporary setting as well. Both characters are very believable. Their struggles are real and not just a bunch of silly nonsence. LaVyrle Spencer has done an exceptional job of describing the yachting/boating class of "society" people and the specific craftsmanship involved with building sail boats. I could almost actually smell the saw dust as I read the novel. All of the supporting characters were very believable and important to the entire story. It was a rich and detailed novel, but not overly cluttered with facts that were boring or not needed. LaVyrle Spencer is a very talented author. I could easily imagine "November of the Heart" as a movie. It's heart warming and emotional and I believe alot of readers will be able to identify with the struggles of the main characters. The ending was satisfying and left me with a good feeling.

It's an older novel, but definately worth buying it or finding it at your local library.

    poor editing. tons of typos.

I absolutely love this book but it was obvious that whoever was responsible for proofreading was on vacation. Very distracting typos and poor punctuation. The paper book is fine. I have it but wanted it on my nook. That's where the problems are.

    more from this reviewer

One of my all time favorite romances.

I read this years ago when it first came out and this love story remains one of my all time favorites, with no real villain and no obvious solutions. As always, Ms. Spencer brings to life characters you know and care about, but something in this particular novel manages to take me just that step further than the average tale. I remember clearly just how hard I rooted for this couple, because I remember bursting into tears at one point. (Not my normal M.O.) Definitely one of my top historical romance recommendations as reader and as a bookseller.

More like 10 stars and four thumbs up!!!

I knew right from the start that this book was going to be amazing. Jens and Lorna's story made my heart ache. Their love for each other stood even in the worst of times. This is a book where I'm going to read it over and over again.

    Outstanding.....

This is one of the best books I've ever read. It had everything; romance, heartache, a little suspense, and interesting characters. No book has ever affected me in such an emotional way as this one did. The troubles Jens and Lorna endured were heartbreaking. Several times throughout the book I got so upset I cried outright, something I've never before done while reading a book, simply because I was never so moved by a story to do so. This author is so adept at getting to the reader with her realistic characters. The troubles of the young couple notwithstanding, there were also many wonderful moments between them and it made for a very refreshing and beautiful story. Not sense Romeo and Juliet has a couple been so devoted, so in love. Lorna was just lovely, and Jens was a great guy. Lorna's parents were awful, though. They adhered to ridulous class rules to the bitter end rather than support their daughter. There is only one thing I dislike about this author's work in general: I don't understand why L.S. feels the need to tell the reader 'the toilet flushed,' or, as in a case involving Jens, why L.S. interrupted a sweet love scene between him and Lorna so that Jens could go to the river 'to take a bath without soap'. I just didn't need to know that. It's kind of a turn off.

    A Beutiful Love Story

This novel was so touching! The rich girl / poor guy plot and the historical New England setting were wonderful. A moving tale of "love conquers all". One of the most passionate, heartwarming stories I've ever read. One of my all-time favorites! Ms. Spencer is a true artist!

    Romantic & Heartbreaking!!

This is my favorite Lavyrle Spencer book so far. This book would make a wonderful movie or mini-series. I could picture the scenery and characters in my mind as I read it...loved every word, cried, and re-read the ending three times!
