One of THE Best Breastfeeding Books of All Time

As a mother who nursed 4 children plus became certified as a La Leche League leader who assisted many other new mothers over the years this book is an all time favorite. I once loaned the original version to a neighbor with a newborn who was feeling discouraged with breastfeeding and had asked me for encouragement. She read the book in one day and became so inspired and enthused! She said she thought this book should be required reading for EVERY high school girl. This neighbor went on to successfully breastfeed for many months, which both she and her baby benefited from and enjoyed immensely. I just bought the updated version for my daughter, who is expecting her first child.

Don't go to the hospital without this!

In 1975 this book was the best support for me as a first time nursing mom. Pryor provides a day-by day guide for what to do and what to expect for the first 14 days with the new baby, when so many women are overwhelmed with this new experience. Then she leads you through the first year and beyond, including how to partner nursing with solids and how to ween. I now recommend this book to all my younger, pregnant friends. So glad to see it is still in print. I'm buying one now for my adult, unmarried daughter just in case the publisher ever makes the mistake of removing it from the shelves.

    must read for any mother

Twenty years ago a friend gave me this book before my second child was born, and she and Karen Pryor gave me the gift of successfully nursing my baby. I have since 'payed it forward' to every pregnant woman I know. Karen is the best advisor and cheerleader there is for nursing mothers! She shows you that nursing is just like giving birth---you don't have to do it to be a mom, but why miss out on it if you have the chance?

    It really helped me

I have just had a baby and wanted to nurse him. This book really helped me, since it explains on one side, how we biologically work, as mammals, and on the other, how to deal with all the problems that accompany nursing a baby. I did not need to ask lots of questions to doctors, and every time I had a fear or question, the book had a solution. I really think it is worth reading for any mother wanting to understand how to nurse a baby
