This is a keepsake book for people who supported Obama during the election and believe in his brand of politics. If you don't like Obama, you probably won't like this book. If you support Obama, you probably will. This book combines three distinct elements: newspaper front pages from across America and around the world when Obama was nominated, elected and inaugurated, double-page photos from those events, and five important speeches. Together these elements capture the Obama phenomenon and package it in a convenient form. The newspaper front pages contain great headlines and photos that are easily readable, and it is interesting to see how Obama is perceived in different states and countries. The newspapers obviously had to be shrunk to fit in a book that can actually be kept on a shelf, so people over 40 may have trouble reading the newspaper articles without a magnifier. The headlines and the text of the speeches, on the other hand, are quite large. All the discussion about acid-free, archival paper is ridiculous. This book is published by a major illustrated book publisher. They're not stupid and self-destructive enough to use defective paper. The reproductions in this book will likely last much longer than the original newspapers.Show Less

While a great idea and a lovely compilation, this book is not for the collector. The images in the book are beautiful but the photos are small and you cannot read most of the newspaper articles pictured without a magnifying glass. The reason the book is not of keepsake quality is because the paper the pages are made from is not meant to last; the paper is thin and not of archival quality. For a keepsake quality book, try "President Obama Election 2008: Collection of Newspaper Front Pages by the Poynter Institute." If you want a book that provides an overview and some interesting supporting text "Obama: The Historic Front Pages" is fine. The writing and organization are fine; it just isn't as nice in quality as it could be.Show Less

    Eye Candy

This is such a refreshing way to see the way the country and the world reacted to this extraordinary man. Because, in this book, the news pages are readable, I can get a sense of the universal hope that we all need. Reading the speeches in the way they are presented, brought tears to my eyes yet again.

    Loved the Papers

My son gave me this book yesterday as a birthday gift. Many years ago I worked at one of the great newspapers on the printing line and he knew of my love for the business. This book brings so many voices from all around the world and the way they are presented is really smart. To have Obama's speeches all in one place, and to be able to read them at my own pace brings an even greater appreciation of their force and conviction. It's a great book. To the guy who thought the paper is thin or not of collectible quality-well-he is wrong. This paper is clearly acid-free and is probably archival, and it has somewhat of the feel of real newspapers which I am sure is intended. I'm still a printer running my own shop with my son and I should know. My only other comment is the cover is printed a shade dark.

    Perspective in Place

How did the south treat the election? How did the midwest adapt to the democratic win? How did the Northeast pay tribute? and How did the world view the opportunity of a young black american and his historic achievement. It's all here as reflected in the front pages of newspapers from around the world. A great way to sit and absorb the man, the election process and the public perception. His speeches-all of the improtant ones are here and they are electric and inspiring. The still photographs are beautiful. Two thumbs up!

    falls short of expectation

The idea is great but can't read the newspaper front pages. This would be a great keepsake if it could be read. Found a full size book at POSTERKRAZE.COM. Love this book!! Although it is not hard cover it is a book for generations to cherish. It is newspaper size and very enjoyable to read and learn about the reaction across the USA on the historic day!

    OBAMA IS AMAZING

This book is a must have. Obama has a lot of haters and I am glad he didn't listen to the naysayers and he is now the President. Wonderful book!

The Historic Front Pages - Barrack Obama

This resource helps to provide a broader perspective of the political scene. The images are positive and up-lifting, just as Barrack Obama's candidacy. It provides five historic speeches along with the front pages of newspapers around the world on the occasion of his nomination, election, and inauguration. In short, The Historic Front Pages captures the man and his decisive moment.

Give a piece of history as a gift

Perfect gift book. Compiles Obama's speech on race from March 2008, his inaugural address, and other key speeches in one place. And the speeches are presented in clear, readable type in a format that lends itself to reflection and discussion.

    Great History Book

This book is a wonderful addition to my historical collection on the presidency of Barack Obama. The pictures are beautiful, and the headlines from the newspapers of other countries are spectacular. I would recommend it to others to keep or pass along to future generations.

    over it

I get it, I get it, hes AMAZING! But can we please all move on from the historic crap and see If he can actually deliver on his campaign promises? If he does, then, good for him, hes one of the few politicians who does.
But until I see him get asked real questions, not soft ones, I dont see what his big deal is.

    Rock STAR PAP

This is a piece of political tripe. It's as much an historic event for his race as it is for the fact that the country has elected a radical liberal socialist to its highest office; this is a pandering attempt to collect on that event; another rock star broad sheet

Obama's Victory, as seen thru the Eyes of the WORLD

This is a valuable book to have in your library because it is not only a collector's item, it also correctly chronicles the election of a man who was once, because of the color of his skin, thought not possible.
The WORLD celebrated the news and the headlines everywhere seemed to be in agreement that (1) a truly new day in the U.S. was beginning (2) this country, while always boasting of welcoming all to it's shores & saying 'anyone (born here) could grow up to be President, finally proved that it is not only white males who can lead this country (3) this election was the most MAJOR election ever in U.S. history and the world was HAPPY about the results.
I am still dazed as I flip the pages of this book...and am thrilled to see it have happened in my lifetime!

My Response to Obama' The Historic......

The book was first noticed at our local library. I knew I wanted a copy at first sight. I, also Knew friends and co-workers that would likeit as well.

Saving money is never easy, but I managed to purchse 3 copies a month to give to others. Now with the price reduced, I am hording several for the sure desire of others later on.

My next purchase will include the other volume that covers the campaign.
