I already own four books on Odd Nerdrum's work and artistic philosophy, but I'm very glad I bought this one. As a late-career retrospective, it has a scope that none of the other books have, and the title, "Themes", describes well what its organizing principle is. As a skeleton to build the book around, it's delightful. It illuminates not only his obsessions in terms of subject matter, but also his approach to mediums and techniques and his working process. Add to that the enormous scale of the book, encompassing many same-size details of the work, and it becomes a necessity for any Nerdrum fan. For those looking for a simple introduction to his work, it's probably way too much, though. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
