Clarification of Song Reference

In response to the September 22, 2010 post entitled, "Earnings donated???":

The book's title does not come from the song "America the Beautiful" (whose lyrics are "O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain..."), but instead from the song "America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee)". The lyrics of that song are:
"My country,' tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;"

In this lyric, "of thee I sing" is referring to "my country" not to God.

So he is writing about 13 individuals who he feels represent the spirit of America.

Also, according to an Associated Press article (see Yahoo News for a reprint of the article): "The president will donate any author proceeds to "a scholarship fund for the children of fallen and disabled soldiers serving our nation," the publisher said in a statement."

Thank you to the reviews that have focused on the contents of the book and the facts. Those reviews are helpful in determining whether or not to purchase this book.

Seriously???

Am I the only one who thinks the publication of this book is ridiculous? Does the president not have enough things to do with his time??? Call me crazy but I thought the president was supposed to be focusing on dealing with the important issues facing America's citizens...

Call me crazy but I thought the president was supposed to be focusing on dealing with the important issues facing America's citizens, not sitting around writing children's books. Guess this is just another example of how Obama is more of a celebrileader than a president...

    Geesh

Doesn't Mr. President have more pressing issues than writing a kid's book?

    Didn't really enjoy.

After reading this book, I feel like Barack should be talking about our housing crisis that we are currently in rather then a letter to my daughters. A great book I found out there was "Life After Foreclosure" by Dean Wegner
