a wedding book that is like a best friend
I just got this book, and I just love it. I live in very lame and about as non off-beat as you can get Springfield Illinois, Not a lot here to give me ideas for an alternative to a cookie-cutter wedding. I am young (just shy of 19) and overwhelmed even at these very beginning stages of planning, especially since what I want is anything but typical. I frequently browse the wedding section at Barnes and Noble and I picked the book up on a whim (hey nothing else has worked yet, and the title seems to fit). I was flipping through it , and wasn't done with it when it was time to go, so I bought it, just to check it out a bit more (because well if it didn't work out I could return it because there is nothing more depressing than 15 unused wedding books on your shelf so if it isn't right don't keep it) anyway I got home and much to my surprise and amazement i had it halfway read before bed. It felt like having a best friend by my side who had already been through the trouble and pain and knew all the best tricks. I love the personal anecdotes and the very helpful advice on just everything. I am happy to say that not only will I be keeping this book, but I will be buying it for everyone I know who is planning an offbeat wedding, because this book rocks my socks. It brought wedding planning to a level of pure enjoyment for me.

Enjoyable, real, fun, easy read!
Love this book! I rarely read (even a magazine), but this book held my attention each day in a fabulous way! Great ideas, enthusiastic about each bride's own individuality, helpful hints, full of personality! I was constantly spouting excerpts to my friends, family and boyfriend. Or chuckling to myself while reading, and making notes. I will re-read this when I plan my own wedding, and recommend this to friends. I would have absolutely given this book a 5 Star rating, EXCEPT "Part 6- As the Dust Settles" lost steam. I don't know what happened, but the writing became less lively or enthused and seemed to be, I don't know, missing something that the other 5 Parts had made me so adoring. Though, with an excited smile, I would still gladly put this book in a friend's hand!

Something Different!
By far my favorite wedding book, and I bought quite a few! Excellent for those of us who are enthusiastic about having a wedding, but uneasy about the bridal-industrial complex and its traditional pastels, inflated prices, and antiquated ideas. Plus, I love a book that's sprinkled with unexpected irreverence, profanity, and witticism.
