    What is going on???

I have not read Robin Parrish's other series of books (Relentless, Fearless, Merciless) but have heard such good things about them (and they are on my TBR list) that I was thrilled to see he had a stand alone book coming out that I could get my hands on. So "Offworld" comes in and I start reading and by the end of chapter 1, I can not put it down! The style is intense and pressing and I just kept turning the pages... 2:00 in the morning - who cares! I'm reading "Offworld" here people! I wasn't sure how he could make an interesting book with only really 4 characters, but boy did he. And all may not be as it seems anyway... or is it???

The first manned mission to Mars comes home after 2 1/2 years excepting lots of hoopla and celebration... only one problem, no one is there to greet them. No one. Anywhere. Period. So the four astronauts set out to figure out what happened and where everyone is. The most obvious destination for answers is in Houston where an enormous shaft of light is emanating.

Along the way they run into a few issues, but what will they find, and will they make it? I was absolutely sucked into the world of "Offworld". There were only two places where I was kind of like, okay already - the tornado and Chris Burke's flashbacks to Mars. Otherwise this book is a roller coaster that shoots out of the starting gate and doesn't stop til the last page! I can't wait to read more by Robin Parrish!

    Offworld Review

Offworld is a little hard to follow and confusing at the beginning, that made it a little frustrating for reading at first. However, the farther you get into the book the more is explained, so if you want gratification instantly, don't let that deter you from reading it, indeed all the confusion that he had in the earlier chapters was dealt with to fulfill the plot.

The characters are a little too "touch feely".

One of things about Offworld, is that there is no objectionable content in it. When a book can be passed on to our 13 year old daughter to read, that garners a high spot for it on the bookshelf.

Book Review of "Offworld" by Robin Parrish

Offworld by Robin Parrish is a science fiction story that wraps together Mars, Earth, humanity and many other factors. The story is full of surprises and a couple of twists that you don't see coming. The book illustrates many common human fears and emotions. I'm not sure there was supposed to be one direct message to get across in the book, however they're were a few things I did take away from the book and it was a good adventure story. The story was full of fighting, surviving and struggle throughout an incredible ordeal that not many people could imagine. The book made me think about a few things, most definitely the future and mankind being on Earth. The story was not drawn out too much and it was able to hold my attention and kept me wanting to read and learn more. It's not until closer to the end of the book when you finally realize what exactly is going on in the story. To anyone who enjoys science fiction or adventure tales I would recommend this book. It's a good story of life, love and the human spirit.

Suspenseful thriller about astronauts returning home to an empty Earth

Offworld by Robin Parrish is a mind-bending sci-fi thriller that simply begs for big screen treatment. A group of four astronauts: Chris, Trisha, Terry, and Owen have been on a mission to Mars for the past twenty-nine months. Two months before they are due to return home, they lose contact with NASA, and end up returning home blind, hoping that it is simply a problem with their equipment. They are shocked by what they find on the return home: the earth is empty, all humans and animals are gone and have been since that fateful day two months ago. Determining that their mission is not at an end, they set out to discover the cause of a mysterious light radiating from Houston and find that they may not be the only ones left alive after all. Hollywood, listen up! Transformers 2, we did not need;Offworld NEEDS to be made into a movie! Parrish writes so cinematically , every scene comes to life. The action rips across the pages, and the characters would make stars of the actors in the roles. Parrish keeps the suspense taut by giving more questions than answers and keeping the characters constantly on the run for their lives. The chase scenes are phenomenal, especially Trisha's leap with two jeeps across the sky into a skyscraper. On the screen, it's the kind of scene that would earn a cheer of awe from the crowd, on the page, it made my jaw drop and I wanted to share it with someone else. Parrish is a writer I will definitely be keeping my eye on in the future!

Don't judge a book by its cover.......because it may be the best part.

This book went from intriguing to "Heh, let's see if little Billy wants to write a few chapters". I made it until about 40 pages left and I couldn't take it anymore. I'm embarrassed to say I read it. Although, I didn't finish, so that's a plus. Seriously, the first half of the book kept you reading, and then suddenly, it was like a different writer finished the book. Not only did the plot deteriorate, the writing did as well. Hopefully, God saved the world at the end. Mr. Parrish, you're no Travis Thrasher.

Offworld - Out of this world.

Very different type of book. I don't even read science fiction kind of books. I suppose this is what I would call it. Just very different then what I read BUT what an amazingly, unique book. I have read none like it! A+ for originality that is for sure. Never a dull moment.

    I Also Recommend:

I found the title intriguing with regard to the picture on the cover of the book. It looks apocolyptic but not in a manner that looks like devastation.

This book was really good. I could not guess what was actually going on until practically the end of the book. I recommend it highly.
