Review on Olive, the Other Reindeer

My son received this book as a Christmas gift and it is exceptional! It's innovative and whimsical. I especially like the unique flaps and scratch and sniff sections on the pages. The radiant colors draw attention as well. Also, it teaches children that no matter how small, anyone can make a difference. In this case, Olive saves Christmas. It is beautifully written and deserves five thumbs up. It gets the children involved, and excites them about reading. I would recommend this to any parent wanting to purchase a good book for their child. I love reading it as much as my son loves hearing it.

Timeless Story of Identity, Purpose and Role

A child will understand and an adult will wonder. Ideal for reading aloud and learning to read. One can learn to tell stories in one's own words from it. Illustrations bring the story to life, the plush Olive makes a friend for a child with an active imagination.

Great book for kids with a sense of humor.

My boys (4year old twins) love this book. They love the play on words (Olive, the other reindeer...All of the other reindeer) and they love all of the adventures that this dog turned honorary reindeer has on that faithful night.

    Loved it!

My kids and myself are big fans of the Olive the Other Reindeer movie so when we saw the book, it was a MUST HAVE by my kiddos. We have read several times and it is such a sweet story about a little dog named Olive who helps save Christmas. Very sweet book!

    Olive the Other Reindeer

¿Olive the other reindeer,¿ Olive sings while wrapping her Christmas presents. ¿Wait, am I really a reindeer?¿ the little dog named Olive asks herself if she is a reindeer throughout J. Otto Seibold¿s Children¿s tale, Olive the other Reindeer. Even though Olive is little in size, she is big in spirit and learns that a big heart and confidence is all she needs to help others. The lyrics of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer confuse Olive, a teddy-bear sized mutt, who mistakes herself for a reindeer. She thought that the lyrics to her favorite holiday song went, ¿Olive the other reindeer,¿ instead of ¿all of the other reindeer.¿ The petite dog then goes to the North Pole, thinking that Santa need help with delivering presents on the night of Christmas Eve. It turns out that Old St. Nick does need this eager pooch for his journey. With gum drops dropping and flutes whizzing out of the jolly man¿s sack, Olive¿s canine skills come in handy. She happily retreats them, for she loves to fetch things. After patching a hole, from the scary collision with monstrous pines, they go off again into the frigid winter night. Of course, when it seems like no other disasters could happen, a thick fog ventures upon them. Will Olive be able to lead the crew safely back to the North Pole? This children¿s story is wonderful for children of all ages, because who wouldn¿t love the unique illustrations of lovable Olive? Seibold uses fun paper cut outs to go along with this fantastic holiday tale. His different style in his designs let the reader see the story in a totally different view. It also lets the reader open up his or her imagination by visualizing a cream and caramel colored dog inside the world of paper. Because this enjoyable children¿s book has received so many wonderful comments from readers as well as The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, and Booklist, it is now a movie. All in one, this fantasy fulfills children¿s interests by having holiday fun, and teaches various moral lessons, such as no matter what size someone is, it¿s the personality that really counts. Maybe the smallest person in the world is the cleverest, and has pleasurable qualities. Even though Olive is little in size, she is big in spirit and learns that a big heart and confidence is all she needs to help others. Price: $12.95
