This is an interesting take on the nature of prejudice and I think it is important that Stacey's best friend is of Asian origin as it adds emphasis to idea that prejudice has subtle forms that are no less damaging than the obvious ones. Stacey is apparently not guilty of the more overt forms of prejudice and I suspect that she would probably abhor them. At one point she even bemoans the prevalence of the way that people value good looks over intelligence. However, she fails to see that her own prejudices are equally unfounded, at least not until she is forced to confront it.
The use of first person is not usually to my taste but this was quite skilfully done and was an important part of the character development.
