beautiful.
to put it simply... great music by great musicians. it doesn't get much better than this... the album from start to finish is just beautiful. Regardless of whether you have seen the movie, this album is a collection of some of the most amazing melodies I have ever heard.

This CD is going and going and going over and over again in my CD player in my car. When I got it I would not even wait to make it an MP3!

BEST MOVIE EVER!
This was the best film I've ever seen. Not since "Ed's Next Move" have I loved an independent movie so much. I'm a singer-song writer and it was a very touching story. The songs are incredible - I wish I had written them. Thank you so much for making this film.

The movie and music reviews are true!
I found this movie at Blockbuster--there was only one copy of it. I've grown to mistrust some movie reivews, especially one that said, "ONCE may well be the best music film of our generation." Well, it's true. Peter Travers from Rolling Stone said, "A gift of a movie that is absolutely worth seeing more than once." It is. The music is soulful, passionate, melodic, and I'm going to buy the CD today!!

A dose of yearning
Interestingly enough, I first heard the lead track of this CD on the radio as I was headed to work a while back. I had to pull over. It hit home in a way few songs have in a long time. I'm no romantic. Far from it. But this pulled at me. Now, six months later, my wife and I just watched the movie and I'm not sure if this song existed prior to the filming of "once," or as a result of it. Either way, it's a stunning song -- and soundtrack. My hope is that this is the realization of the dreams they seem to portray in the movie. If not -- so be it. Regardless, great tunes.

"Once" Upon a Musical Time . . .
There's something to be said about this sleepy album. The music almost comes across as perfectly written accompaniment to an adult fairy tale, however, close listening reveals a singer-songwriter project too irresistible and intriguing to be considered background music. The Swell Season (the collaboration of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova) produce a soundtrack filled with beautiful tales of love and heartbreak. The simple production filled with Irish fiddles transports the listener to this lush, leprechaun-laden homeland - the same territory claimed by fellow Irishman Damien Rice. It is interesting to note that Hansard and Irglova create a sound strikingly similiar to the Damien Rice/Lisa Hannigan duo in that thoughtful, poetic lyrics are set to soft, building instrumentation delivered with such conviction that it is impossible to not find yourself seduced into the melodious rants. The black sheep of the playlist is "Broken Hearted Hoover Sucker Guy" as its production quality and style just don't fit in with the rest of the set. What it does provide is comedic relief in the midst of heart-on-the-sleeve, melodramatic stories of love, or lack there-of. So, the album cannot be discredited for this one blemish that proves to be quite funny, and dare I say, enjoyable. Though I haven't seen its theatrial counterpart, "Once"'s soundtrack seemingly serves as a beautiful, well-crafted addition to The Swell Season's young catalogue. Recommended.

Caught Off Guard With The Melodies and Power
My initial exposure to Once, the movie, was through Maltin Minute on Direct TV. After watching the movie and listening to the captivating music, I couldn't let it rest. I had to watch the movie the second time and picked up on nuances I had not noticed in the first watching. The Music in the movie bowled me over. I have also ordered the CD on internet.

Could Not Get Melodies Out of My Head
After being recommended the movie by a friend, I found it had just been released to DVD. I was charmed by the simple but not simplistic plot and bowled over by the powerful music it contained. Many of the melodies would not leave my head. I could not believe I had not heard more about this movie, so I set out to read as much as I could on the internet. What a great story there! It is bound to become a classic word-of-mouth favorite!

A wonderful surprise
I just picked up the movie on a whim,as it was about making music, and I thought it was one that my 16 yr.old musician son and I could watch together. I ended up watching it by myself first, and I was so moved by the purity and the lovely nuances in the movie. It was so wonderful feeling immersed in this sweet, but not sappy story.Everythingfelt right on ....the way the characters personalities were expressed, the language. and the music..wow. My son was watching the academy award and he suddenly yelled "Mom! Its the music people!Imissed seeing them accept their awards, but it givess me hope that works such as this can be rewarded.
