I was absolutely hooked from the first page of this amazing novel; enough so to go out and buy Michael Marshall Smith's other novels, and even a collection of his short stories. He has a talent for drawing you effortlessly into a world of alien concepts, yet keeping the universal human truths fully available throughout the most bizarre situations. In One Of Us he pushes, pulls, and contorts the boundaries of what we accept as normal. This book makes you stand between the world as we understand it and the world of Hap Thompson, then realise the similarities that exist in both; it makes you wonder which is the twisted world, and which is the real. I really can't place any best section of the book, only the fact that I was filled with amazing compasion for Hap, and felt like I was living with his trials, triumphs, and that smarmy alarm clock! Was this review helpful?
