    I just finished Our Daily Bread and loved every minute of it. It

    I just finished Our Daily Bread and loved every minute of it. It was a thrilling ride. I loved the fact is is based on a true story, and that the characters are so well developed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this novel, it was excecptionally satisfying.

    Gripping, Well Written, and Thoroughly Enjoyable!

    I read a review about Our Daily Bread and also noted it was listed as one of the best books of 2011 by The Boston Globe, so I ordered the book. I just finished it in a day and half - I couldn't put it down. I got into the story from the first few pages, and really cared about what happened to Albert and the other children on the mountain. The older woman from the town who runs the antique shop, Dorothy, is one of my favorite characters. The story moves along quickly, and is exceptionally well written. I found the whole experience very satisfying and highly recommend this novel.

    A BACKWOOD FEUD COME TO LIFE! OUR DAILY BREAD BY LAUREN B. DAVIS...

    OUR DAILY BREAD by Lauren B.Davis is an interesting general fiction set in the North Mountain of Gideon. It has child abuse,violence, bullies, gossip,rumors,innuendoes,family crisis,secrets, psychological conflict.This is a complex story that is inspired by a true story.The characters are engaging, memorable,and emotionally complex. This is the story of the Erskine Clan,who have been shunned be the people of Gideon,live in secrecy and isolation,while their children endure unthinkable things. This story is a thought provoking story of Mountain people,the townspeople around them and their lives. When Albert Erskine decides to befriend Bobby Evans,it creates events that are not only unexpected but may also cause dire events. An interesting story with complex people and emotions.This book

    Scarily truthful

    Albert Erskine is one of the mountain people. He was born there, raised there and still is there, albeit in his own one-room shack away from everyone else. He lived through the hell that serves for growing up in his clan. He endures sodomy, sex with his mother, burns, whippings, little love and absolutely no salvation. Just like the young children in his family today.
    Bobby Evans is a typical sullen teen. His mother has left the home, his little sister Ivy cries a lot, his dad is lost in life. He thinks he has it bad. He hasn't a clue. Then he meets Albert and finds the big brother he never had.
    What happens when these two collide is beyond imagination. The children of the mountain want to die; Ivy wants to be a rockhound and wants dad to hunt with her. An amazing woman named Dorothy Carlisle has been secretly trying to help the mountain children for years and finds it easy to assist Ivy in her loneliness by having her help in Dorothy's antique shop.
    Above all of this in their small town world of Gideon is the Church of Christ Returning, whose parishioners can gossip their lives away but can't be bothered to lift their hands in assistance. What happens in this story is horrible - beyond it, in fact but what happens in this story will change you. I made me hate my fellow man because, although this is a tale of fiction - it is based on the truth and that's something I will never forget. "Deliverance" my foot - this is the real story!
