How many of us have ever dreamed of being romanced by celebrity?
How many of us have ever dreamed of being romanced by celebrity? I know I have throughout the years. I would get obsessed with celebrities throughout my teenage years especially, and age never made any difference. If anything, the idea of having a guy so much older than me that could sing and/or dance well was mesmerizing. So, in that way, I could certainly relate somewhat to Sylvia and her crush on the British actor Alexander Thorpe. I often went for the British guys, too.Was this review helpful? Unfortunately, I struggled to relate to Sylvia any more than that. I didn't have bad relationships or even an unmentionable thing happen to me. I honestly found a lot of things in the story to be rather far-fetched. That probably shows that this book is intended for young adults, and I struggle to relate any more. This story should definitely spark the imaginations of teenage an young adult girls. I guess I am just too far removed.
I was disappointed that there was so much profanity in the book. I certainly could have done without that, but that is the way that teenagers and young adults do talk (I have been discovering recently that I am one of the only people I know who actually doesn't talk like that.) I was glad there were no detailed sex scenes, but there are adult situations discussed. And I certainly could have done without Sylvia smoking marijuana since it is illegal (except that is no longer true in Colorado and my state--I truly am old-fashioned!).
I only recommend this book for 16 and up, and even then, I do stress the cautions mentioned above. It is a typical romance with a fairly typical ending, so I am sure it will capture the imagination of the true romantics amongst us.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
