Outlining Your Novel offers great advice, but the book productio

Outlining Your Novel offers great advice, but the book production makes it a difficult read. For some reason, all apostrophes and quotation marks are left out. Strangely, commas, semi-colons and colons are intact. The information is good, the paper used is of good quality, the binding is OK but that one consistent--all the way through--error slows the reader's understanding. I bought this book because I'm well into my first fiction book, so I wanted to see what I had missed by doing the outlining only in my head. I've written nearly 50 non-fiction trade books and working methods are similar but enough different that any extra help is appreciated. I wish K.M. Weiland's publisher had been as competent as she is. Even the worst proofreader couldn't miss this many egregious errors. But, as noted, the book contains a wealth of worthwhile information.

This book answered questions I didn't know I had.

Before I read this book I had the number/letter outlines stuck in my head. This book opened my mind to new ways of brainstorming for ideas.

I would recommend this book for anybody who writes anything longer then an e-mail.

The book is light on specifics, but to me, was still an excellent introduction to the ideas of outlining. It made me feel like, yes, I can outline and yes, it can be whatever system/method works best for me. It made me realize that many of the issues I have faced when "pantsing" can be avoided by using an outline. I would recommend this book to anyone who is curious about what outlining may do for their own writing.
