Great Start to Healing from Abortion

This is a great eye-opener to those who otherwise would not touch this subject or look at it in their own life. The book is fiction, but the Bible study that it mentions for post-abortive women is a real Bible study that has impacted my life the lives of many that I know. I love the author's approach of telling each woman's story- because we all have a story and more of us should tell them- especially when they relate to the awesome healing and work of God!

    The Personal Face of Abortion

Over Coffee We Shared Our Secrets, by Julie Surface Johnson, 2008 Winepress Publishing, 2008, 224 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-1579219734, $12.95

When her last ¿chick flew the coop,¿ Julie opened a coffee shop in Oregon. Regulars soon asked her for motherly advice. Liz served her counsel like her coffee: ¿strong, like a French Roast, somewhere in the middle, like a good Colombian, or mild as Costa Rican.¿

Mother of two grown daughters, Liz recognized pain in some expressions when children were nearby. Her best friend Annie told her post-abortive women view children as painful reminders. It wasn¿t until Annie joined H.E.A.R.T, an abortion support group that she learned how to be forgiven and set free from anniversary dates and tormenting sounds.

In this nonfiction book, join Liz and six women on their personal journeys of repentance, healing and forgiveness. You¿ll get to know Liz, who struggles with a bitter secret, Mariah, an abuse victim, and Emma, influenced by her peer group. You¿ll also meet Susan, a mom with broken dreams, pregnancy center director, Annie, and Carly, who believed Planned Parenthood¿s lies.

Johnson¿s honest, sensitive writing style reveals the personal heartache of abortion. I recommend it without reservation for schools, churches, and home libraries.

Review of "Over Coffee We Shared Our Secrets."

I thoroughly enjoyed "Over Coffee We Shared Our Secrets." I felt part of the group of women who met and ultimately opened their lives to each other within the warmth of a coffee shop. They shared the circumstances and choices of their lives as well as the hurts and desires of their hearts. Their journey from regret to redeption is portrayed as each woman finds the healing power of God working within the security of honest friendships. As each story unfolded and I was drawn in, I found something in each woman's life that touched my own. Julie Johnson has dealt with sensitive issues with compassion and wisdom in the context of a good story. I'm looking forward to future books from this author.
