Oxford Pictionary Dictionary - A big help for international students

I teach English to international students who have very low skills in English. Vocabulary is a basic building block of language learning, and students need more vocab to understand, to write, and to have conversations. I added the OPD to my required texts because it comes in various language translations (a HUGE plus), and it is colorful, fun (non-intimidating, and easy to understand. It has definitely been a useful & helpful resource for my students and I.

    An Invaluable Resource

We have been using this picture dictionary in our "Talk Time" sessions where immigrants and refugees are practicing their English. It has been an important tool for stimulating conversation and explaining words. This book has been extremely helpful in the planning of our topic subject for each week. We also use this picture dictionary in our ESOL classes. Since it is so thorough we can always find pages that can assist us in whatever subject we choose as a topic of conversation for our "Talk Time" session. I know it is highly appreciated by our international students as some have chosen to have copies for themselves in their homes. For anyone involved in this type of outreach to our new immigrants and refugees I would highly recommend using this picture dictionary.

    Outstanding Book

This book was recommended to me by a non-native speaker of English. I purchased it (along with the Oxford Picture Dictionary: Low Beginning Workbook) as a gifts for a friend and her English has improved drastically. A must for those that don't have access to an English as Second Language class or supplement to those that do.

wonderful dictionary for adult learners as well as youngsters

This is the best dictionary for learners of English as a second language and other adult learners. I have used this in my classroom for almost 2 years and the students are impressed with the vocabulary and the use of verbs. Not only is there a comprehensive use of many nouns in familiar pictures, but the action of verbs are also shown in picture form. Adult learners appreciate the level of the pictures, but the book is also valuable for young students who are learning to read and/or spell. I highly recommend this book for its usefulness in the educational system as well as home schooling.
