Very suprised it worked for my stubborn 3 year old
I never thought I would be writing this review but my 3 year old son is now pacifier free!! He was only using it for naps and bedtime but he wouldn't give it up no matter what we tried. He became very upset if we told him he couldn't have it and would not sleep without it. I came across this book during a visit to B&N with my son. We read it for a few nights at bedtime. He understood what it was saying but when I asked him if he wanted to be like the big kids in the book and sleep without a pacifier, he would scream "NO!!" The odd thing was though, he loved the book and continued to want to read it. One day my husband and I were busy doing other things and my son went in his room and I heard him "reading" this book. Pretty soon he came out of his room and had his pacifier in his hand and said "I'm going to throw this in the trash." He marched downstairs and threw it away (just like it says to do in the book). When he wasn't looking I grabbed it because I was afraid of a complete meltdown later. He did cry for a few nights and said he wanted it back but the worst night he only cried for about 15 minutes. Now he doesn't even talk about it and his new little sister has one and he doesn't want it. Whew, I really thought that he was going to be 18 years old with a pacifier at night!! :)Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This book backfired!
I got this for my 19 month old. It was geared towards 4 year olds and totally backfired. I already had her pacifier use limited to nap time / bedtime since she was a year old. She became obsessed with this book and started asking for it to be read all the time. Within a few days she was having fits about not having her pacifier during the day, and it progressed to her wanting it all the time and throwing a fit. I hid the book and things went back to baseline after a couple of weeks, but it was a struggle to get her to stop asking for it all the time. I would not use this book for a younger child. I may try this for an older child - closer to 4, but certainly not for a younger one!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
