An unexpected pleasure
I got this book as a free book on my Nook, not expecting at all to like it. I just wanted something to read. It takes place in the pioneer west of Texas -- not my usual style of book by far. However, I ended up falling in love with this story and the characters of Sarah and Clay. If you enjoy Christian fiction I would definitely recommend this book. If not, you may it find a bit preachy, but I would still encourage you to give it a try. It's a sweet love story with a mystery thrown in as well. Though I was pretty sure I had the mystery figured out -- and did in fact figure out most of it -- I still couldn't put it down because I wanted to know if I was right. I am very interested in reading the other two books in this series after reading the first one. It was a very unexpected pleasure to read this lovely story.

Excellent!
I truly loved every minute of reading this book. I have shared this book with friends and they feel the same way. They asked me how I got such a good book.
I am reading the second book in this trilogy and can hardly wait for the third book to come (however, it won't be until next year).
I think the writer is SUPER in her plots and the feelings that are in the book really hit the heart.17 out of 19 people found this review helpful.

This was a book I received as a free read. Not having anything else in my library to read, I broke down and read it. Once I started though I couldn't put it down. I am looking forward to reading the next bookin the series.

Paper Roses is an intriguing story with believable characters and surprising twists - a very satisfying read.
Paper Roses by Amanda Cabot is one of the best historical books I've read. I was immediately drawn into the story by the touching characters. After a family tragedy, Sarah Dobbs follows her heart to Texas to become a mail-order bride, only to find her dream shattered by another tragedy.

Clay, the brother of her dead fiance, offers her passage back home. Sarah shows her independence by forming a new life for her and her sister. In her new surroundings, Sarah is challenged to put the past behind her. Clay is also dealing with his own painful losses.

The mystery element in this story was intriguing. I liked the way this book kept me guessing, and the ending had a surprising twist.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

LOVED IT!!!!!
Ok I LOVED this book. I'm 11 and really like pioneer/historical fiction/romance/mystery. Which is what this book is. I wish that Amanda would describe a bit more instead of just telling the reader. I loved how the story unfolds and how surprising the ending/solution was. Again, LOVED IT!!!
*SPOILER*
I wish that there was a SEQUEL sequel to it, where Sarah and Clay have children and Thea is like, 10, and if Gunther marries Olga who becomes the school teacher, ya know? Not a "Texas Dream" book that has a different character.3 out of 4 people found this review helpful.

Paper Roses - Amanda Cabot
This story was good. Some reviews said this story was "Over Preachy" but I gave it a read anyway. I'm glad I did.
I think that the story needed to include the messages of God as well as his love. Sure the story could have continued without the messages, but I think that if they weren't included as they were, the reader might have finished the story with the feeling of "what was the point?"
I'll be looking forward to finding more books from this author.3 out of 3 people found this review helpful.

Excellent read. Kept me involved the entire time. No complicated plots and easy to pick up at the place where previous reading was left off.

Good read, Christian, 269 pages
Good, typical Christian historical romance. Excellent character development, strong storyline.
Only flaw - since I live in Texas, I know - poor description of what actually constitutes a 'hot Texas summer day' . . . this author doesn't have a clue of just how sweltering and unbreatheable Texas heat can be. But, for anyone who has never lived here, it won't affect the readability.2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

Very good
I thought it was a very good romance/drama type story. It held my interest til the end. Being from Texas recognized some of the historical references. Even my husband enjoyed it.

Very Long
This book would of been much better had there been more passion, but one kiss during the entire book is not enough for me.

Well writen, want to read more
Enjoyed the story line, the charaters were realistic. It was a mystery/romance history type of book. I am awaiting the other two books in the series.

Nice book
Reading this book was a good way to fill time during a long road trip. It had a little twist of mystery, which was refreshing for a western romance novel. I recommend it if you like this genre, or if you are in a reading rut and would like to try something different (and can get it free). However if you are the type who likes a thought provoking book, skip this one.
