A good read. Parts of the story, such as Jack visiting with the British Royal Family and fawning over their prestige, were not particularly interesting, but it rates four stars because it is a solid action novel. I have read it three times over the years, and that should say something about how much I enjoyed the story. I reserve five stars for novels of literary brilliance and mesmerizing prose. This is a commercial genre novel and as such four stars is great praise.

    Patriot Games

From the very beginning of the book I was hooked. It is an action packed book that kept me on the edge of my seat. If you've seen the movie don't let that stop you from reading the book. In my opinion the movie didn't do the book justice.

    sweet book

I think Tom Clancy's 'the Patriot Games' is a great book, even though I've only read a quarter of it.But the book starts out like a steam locomotive, slow at the beginning but just keeps on picking up speed.

    BRILLIANT THRILLER - SLIGHTLY LONG

The last fifty pages of this book are action-packed, but first you have to sit through about 450 pages of introduction. They are certainly necessary, but it takes quite a bit of patience to make it through.

Tom Clancy is one of America's most acclaimed storytellers.

The beginning of the book starts off with Jack Ryan on a vacation in London with his wife Cathy and his daughter Sally while doing some research for a book he is writing. As Ryan meets his family at St. James Park, they witness a terrorist attack on a member of British royal family. Ryan charged the terrorists and disrupted their attack by killing. The terrorists belong to ULA (Ulster Liberation Army), an offshoot of the IRA. Sean Miller, fanatic member of the ULA and the mastermind behind the attack, won't let Ryan get away with it. Admiral Greer urges Jack to join the CIA in order to protect the Ryan family from the terrorists' revenge. Clancy make this story sound real. This is a book that you most read if you like action, and things about war.
